Jamaican music fans are in for a borage of treats as three of America's giants will grace the island for its first major stage show of 2013.
Nine-time Grammy award winning R&B/Soul legend, Mary J. Blige, internationally-acclaimed R&B singer, John Legend and iconic singer, Michael Bolton are all billed for the 17th staging of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, which will take from January 24-26 in Montego Bay and Trelawny respectively. Blige and Bolton will perform on January 25 while John Legend is slated to take the Jazz and Blues stage on the 26th.
Mary J. Blige is regarded as one of R&B's most proficient singers, delivering classics such as No More Drama, All I Need (with Method Man), Family Affair and Be Without You. It will be the singer's first performance in Jamaica and given her typically emotional and vigorous singing style, Jazz and Blues organizers promise a strong set from the popular singer.
Like Blige, John Legend has copped nine Grammys, dropping classics of his own such as Ordinary People, Heaven, P.D.A and Everybody Knows. Like Blige, it will be John Legend's first performance in the island
Meanwhile, Bolton, who has performed at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival before, is highly regarded by Jamaican music fans for his strong catalogue of hits, most notably, his memorable rendition of Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves a Woman.
Next month's staging of Jazz and Blues will also mark the 40th anniversary of legendary, Grammy award winning Reggae band, Third World. The iconic group, known for efforts like Now That We've Found Love and Committed, will be joined on stage by emerging Reggae band, Rootz Underground on January 24 to help celebrate their vast contributions to the Jamaican music industry.
"We have a tradition of great entertainment experiences at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and this year we will return aspects of the experience favoured by our patrons and add some new elements. 2013 will be even more interactive and engaging for persons at the event with the introduction of our digital lounge, and an integration of our social media spaces.”
