shorty_vybz_kartel_girl_wife_spouse.jpg

The bad news keeps piling up for prominent Dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel as his common law wife nearly became the subject of a robbery on Friday.
Tanesha Johnson aka Shorty has been coping in recent months since Kartel was arrested and later charged with murder, drug and obstruction of justice related charges as she tries to garner strength for their family the deejay will be exonerated. However, Johnson reportedly suffered a scare late Friday night as two men trespassed on her residence in Norbrook, St. Andrew.

According to reports, a source close to the situation relays that Shorty went outside looking for something in one of Kartel's vehicles when she suddenly noticed two unidentified men acting suspiciously. One of the men hid behind Kartel's S-Class Mercedes Benz while the other hid in a mango tree; prompting Shorty to scream and cry out for help.

Johnson's screams seemingly scared off the men, causing them to escape by jumping over the walls of her neighbor's home.
It remains unknown whether or not a police report has been filed following the incident.
Shorty hails as the mother of three of Vybz Kartel's children. In recent months, she's told of her children's struggles to cope without their father, revealing in an interview last October that she had sought counseling for herself and her family.

Nicki Minaj Back On Twitter After A Few Days Off

By Rob Markman
MTV

nicki_minaj_starships_photos_twitter.jpg

Nicki Minaj deleted her Twitter account last week, taking nine long days away from the social media site, but on Tuesday she finally returned. Her return to Twitter comes just days after she considered retirement from the rap game, and said she was unsure about whether she would continue to tweet.

It was April 15 when Nicki drove her legion of fans crazy by disappearing from the site on which she was among the most popular in the world. "A voice in my head told me to delete my Twitter and that's what I did," Minaj said during an interview in the U.K. "I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me."

At press time, Nicki had 125,000 followers after only a short time back, but it's a safe bet that number will grow exponentially within the coming days. All of Nicki's pervious tweets seem to be intact, minus the few that she sent right before she pulled the plug on her handle. "Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f--king bye," she wrote before vanishing from the social networking site.

Inner Circle Headlines Jamaica's 50th Celebration NY Central Park Summer Stage

Inner Circle / Israel Vibration / The Mighty Diamonds / DJ Carter Van Pelt

Celebrate Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence with this day of Jamaican reggae music.

inner-circle_band_reggae_island_jamaica.jpgTo anyone who's familiar with Inner Circle, the GRAMMY® winning band's 20-year-plus history in reggae has had a long string of successes. Inner Circle's special brand of pop-oriented Jamaican beats and energy-filled live performances have allowed the band to transcend the traditional reggae niche and enjoy widespread crossover appeal. From the launch of their first album in 1978 entitled, Everything Is Great, to the launch of the album, Bad Boys which became an international hit featuring the title track as well as the dance party favorite "Sweat," Inner Circle's brand of unforgettable hooks and island beats has kept the band a mainstay in the reggae world.

The story of reggae group Israel Vibration's success starts out with their humble beginnings as children battling polio in a Jamaican rehabilitation center. Cecil Spence (Skelly) and Lascelle Bulgin (Wiss) bonded through music while in the clinic and quickly became friends. As the duo got older, they found the faith of Rastafari and created songs which expressed their spiritual beliefs. Since then, the duo's music has been spellbinding audiences for over two decades with their mix of traditional roots reggae and deeply spiritual messages such as the critically acclaimed album, On The Rock and its follow-up Free To Move, which reached number one on the CMJ New World charts.

Gospel Artiste KG Electrifies Guyana

Kereen-Gregory-gospel-female-artiste-jamaica.jpgAn awesome two-show stop in Guyana during the Easter weekend has left rising female gospel artiste, KG, in a jubilant mood, even as she declares that her faith was tried.

The singer, whose dancehall and soca-flavoured gospel songs are become as popular as her traditional repertoire, got a pleasant surprise when she slipped into Guyana on the weekend of April 8. Although the promoter had told her that the people in Guyana knew her songs, the affable KG had no idea that the word 'popular' would easily be a fitting description.

At the first show on April 8 at the Kwakwani venue, which is outside of the city, KG's fans delighted her with their word-for-word singing of some of her songs. Entitled Rhema Praise, the concert also featured a line-up of the best gospel acts in Guyana, but it was KG's soca-flavoured Ride Out the Storm that sent ripples throughout the venue.

"I was so pleasantly surprised that the song is so well known in Guyana," KG beamed, with her trademark brilliant smile. "The presence of the Lord was in the place and the people were caught up in giving glory to God," she said of the rollicking praise-and-worship session during her time on stage.

Gramps Morgan: Reggae Music Lives - Album

Gramps_Morgan_Reggae_Music_Lives_Album.jpgWith a mission to heal the world through music, Soul Train Award nominee, Gramps Morgan unleashes his second, solo, album Reggae Music Lives tomorrow (April 24th), independently, on his Dada Son Entertainment label. A musical therapy of sorts, Reggae Music Lives is filled with angelic harmonies, authentic compositions and a unique sound brand, Gramps calls "Rockaz". Reggae Music Lives is more than Reggae; it's world-beat, with a little bit of country, a taste of what Americans call rap-Jamaicans call it toasting; mix it with a hint of r 'n' b, a dash of blues synthesized with contemporary reggae that maintains the integrity of the original art form and you get a sense of the musical accents that help to make Reggae Music Lives complete.

After two years in the making, Reggae Music Lives arrives with inspiration, healing and Gramps' determination to make positive changes in the world. The album's first single 'The Almighty' topped the charts in Jamaica, South Florida and New York while 'Life Too Short', released on March 28th, advanced in the fight for justice in the case of Trayvon Martin. Consequently, team Dada Son decided to donate part of the sale proceeds to the family of the slain Florida teenager. The song has since been added to the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation website (http://justicetm.org/tributes/) where he is listed as an "Official Donor" for his commitment.

I-Octane compensates promoter following incident at a recent show

By M. Jodee

I-octane_mtv_iggy.jpg

Popular Dancehall/Reggae singjay, I-Octane has settled an issue with a promoter following the premature end of a stage show he was due to perform on.
Promoter Tia Reinford demanded compensation from I-Octane after the prominent artiste failed to meet his performance obligations during the Westmoreland Kite Festival on New Year’s Day. The event was cut short after patrons threw bottles on stage after I-Octane's set abruptly ended. Reportedly, I-Octane asked event organizers to dim the light during his set but event organizers were unable to meet his demand. As a result, I-Octane walked off stage in disgust, prompting the incident.

On Thursday, Reinford announced during a radio interview that she and the Crying to the Nation singer will offer fans a free concert in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland on April 28. The promoter hailed I-Octane's kind gesture and its practicality.

"I just want to say thanks to I-Octane and I hope everybody is really ready to come out and want the fans who came at Kite Festival to see I-Octane to know that they will be compensated on April 28 at Coconut Grooves and they can all just turn up," she said.
In the meantime, I-Octane has released singles so far this month such as the Stashment Records produced, Bully and Fake Frenz on the DJ Frass produced, Di Struggles Riddim.

Flexxx says Mavado sold out, rules out possible reconciliation

By Marc Parc

Flexxx_hapilos_21st_johnny_wonder.jpg

Former Gully Squad deejay, Flexxx has been quite vocal about a recent falling out with his former mentor in recent months and refuses to back down.
The Steppin' Razor deejay and long-time friend, Mavado have been at odds ever since a radio interview last November in which the Gully Gaad denied that Flexxx was on tour with him while being named a person of interest in relation to a criminal investigation in the St. Andrew North region. Following that interview, Flexxx revealed in an interview that he had written many of Mavado's material during the singjay's early stages while the Settle Down deejay claimed that his former protégé had long been mimicking him.
Recently, Flexxx released a single on the Aurora Skies Riddim entitled Real Gangsta, which many in the Dancehall industry have speculated is a diss aimed at Mavado and current Gully Squad protégé, Chase Cross.

In the single, Flexxx deejays, "Real gangstas, we straight we no have no bend/we real we nah pretend/some bwoy dem no real, dem bad mind yuh but yuh nuh bad mind dem."
In a recent interview, Flexxx neither confirmed nor denied that Real Gangsta was a diss song aimed at the Gully Squad but insisted that he refuses to back down from Mavado and Chase Cross given things they've been saying about him publicly in recent months.

Getting To Know David M

david_m_reggae_pop_artiste_jamaican.jpgThe island of Jamaica has given the world so much rich music over time along with a variation of genres and styles from Ska, Dub and Reggae, to Jamaican Jazz, Pop and the Rude Boy-injected Rock Steady vibe. Well, that lineage continues - this time with a singer-songwriter, musician of Kingston, Jamaican heritage, who incorporates an eclectic creative mix of R&B and Reggae in his music. His name is David M and he is not an artist that you'll easily forget. His velvety voice and uplifting messages will linger in your heart long after the last note has been played.

"Lest We Forget" is the notable first single written, produced and performed by David M, from his soon to be released conceptual album, Here Comes Your Life. The powerful and climatic song was created in tribute to United States President Barack Obama - the historic significance of his election, and what it represents to people around the globe. Originally written as a salute to South African President Nelson Mandela, David rewrote the song to reflect today's current events.

Regarding the theme for “Lest We Forget,” David says, “I have the privilege to have lived to see the culmination of the efforts and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Marcus Garvey, Rosa Parks and a whole generation of men and women who struggled so that Barack Obama, as well as you and I, can enjoy the fruits of their labor. The labor of those who went before who suffered through this crucible…for the opportunities we have and taken for granted … lest we forget, their sacrifices.”

By John Mitchell
MTV

Rihanna_topless_photo_hawaii_vacation.jpgOh, to be young, beautiful, rich and famous. It sure looks like one heck of a good time.

At least that's what we gather from the photos Rihanna posted to her Facebook Monday night of the Hawaiian getaway she took earlier this year. The Barbadian pop star posted 169 pics of herself and friends enjoying a little fun in the sun, horseback riding, swimming with sharks, enjoying some Bud Light on a boat and lounging on a surf board. Oh, and taking her top off under a waterfall.

For photos from Rihanna's relaxing Hawaiian getaway, click here.

If there was ever any question that the "We Found Love" singer is just about the fittest pop star in the game, these pictures confirm it. From every angle, Rihanna looks amazing; she's rocking visible abs, toned arms and loose, curly locks, and stripped of her diva costumes and makeup, she's a natural stunner. In one pic, RiRi even bares some skin. Bathing under a waterfall, she doffs her bikini top and shoots the camera an ear-to-ear smile.

Produced by Notice Records on the Heart and Soul Riddim, 'Warning' encompasses the positive elements which embody conscious Reggae music. This is just one of many examples of the righteous and inspirational messages that this formidable artist constantly releases.

'Warning' attempts to address the crime and violence that is continually spreading in communities, ghettos and garrisons. The lyrics in the first verse are a rude awakening concerning the escalation of crime in recent years. "Serious times and gruesome crime, endless body mi see dem a find / Hope dem ready for dem judgement time / This is a warning a warning mi uh remind dem God nuh sleep."

Fenda explains, "I am fed up with the high crime rate in Jamaica and other parts of the world. I am also tired of seeing children being abused so I decided to address some of the same issues like I did in Gash Dem." Fenda unmistakably denounces distasteful acts of crime and violence and that such wrong doings don’t go unnoticed; in other words, you shall reap what you sow.

Popcaan_only_man_she_want.jpgProminent Dancehall superstar, Popcaan continues to assert his dominance on the international scene as he was recently featured in one of the United States' major publications.

The self-professed 'Gaza Prefect' was featured in the music section of the highly regarded U.S. newspaper, the New York Times this past weekend. The piece reviews his chart-topping hit single, Only Man She Want, which copped a top 100 sport on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop charts late last month.

Pepita_singer_reggae_jamaica.jpgShe may no longer hosting one of Jamaica’s most popular entertainment shows but the career of prominent media personality, Pepita Little seems to have taken a strong turn for the better.

Since leaving TVJ's Intense almost four months ago, Pepita has enjoyed her share of accolades in various fields, winning Media Personality of the Year at this year's Youth View Awards for her work on the entertainment program in 2011. However, the curvaceous diva has already succeeded in an even tougher field, music as she unveiled her Reggae themed debut single, Luv Luv Me last month.

All-Time High Performance At World Clash R.E.S.E.T. Weekend

david_rodigan_world_clast_reset_New_York.jpg

Shortly before 11 pm on Saturday, April 7, scores of sound clash revelers amassed on Amazura filling it to near capacity. Patrons strategically mapped out where they would "post up" to get the best view of the war, while chatting about; how far they traveled; which sounds they rated; and who was going to take home the trophy. The audience read like a who's who of the sound clash fraternity, with key selectors and other sound system personalities, likewise artists such as Shabba Ranks, Spragga Benz, Johnny Osbourne and Edley Shine (Born Jamericans) among others were in attendance.

The clash came alive with vibrant music selections of both dubs and 45's. More times than not, the participating sounds slung high caliber dubs in the hopes of not being eliminated. Everyone knows how tough New York clash fans can be, so sounds were willing to do any and everything -- such was the strategy of Fire Links who pulled out money, begging the crowd to allow him to remain. His hype failed to garner any real fans and the impact of his dubs were not enough to sustain the crowd through every round.

Dressed for war, Tony Matterhorn had funny speeches and received some forwards, but he too couldn't win over the fierce crowd. Brooklyn's warrior sound Earth Ruler had an early dynamic set and were the only sound to get a forward for every selection played, however as the clash progressed their selections faded and they too were eliminated. Poison Dart had good music selections periodically, but their long skits and speeches didn't work.

Head Concussion earlier this week unveiled their new compilation, the Daily Dose Riddim which features their prized protégé, Chan Dizzy as well as the Portmore Empire. Combining their contrasting styles as they've successfully done in the past, the self-proclaimed 'Worl’ Boss' and the young female singjay mesh their hardcore and more sensual musical personalities to score yet another hit song.

Khago Thrills dancehall fans in Guyana

khago.jpgInternational recording artiste Khago delivered a superb performance at the Victoria Community Centre in a rural community in east Guyana last Easter Monday. The show, dubbed the Easter Monday Extravaganza, featured dancehall artiste Stylysh as well as local Guyanese acts.

Hitting the stage singing Blood a Boil, he immediately earned a major forward from the 4000 strong audience, and then wowed them with one-drop favourites, Pree My Life and Love Stomach. The crowd appeared to take a particular liking to Daddy From Yu Gone as well with several lighters going up during Khago's rendition of it. However, before performing the song, Khago asked for a show of hands of Guyanese men who supported their children, a forest of hands shot up, but one defiant young woman reacted in disgust shouting 'ah lie! Dem wutless!'. The crowd laughed.

He also earned good forwards for his current top 10 chart hit, Bad Mind ah Go Kill dem. He got a major forward for Tun Up Di Ting and the huge hits, Nah Sell Out Mi Friend Part 1 and Part 2. While the Guyanese loved the dancehall numbers, they seemed to get a particular satisfaction from Khago's one-drop material, standing up in awe as he crooned the songs one by one. It was the singjay's first time in Guyana.

By M. Jodee

demarco_popcaan_odds_diss_kingston_city.jpg

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Demarco has taken aim at one of Jamaican music's breakthrough superstars in the wake of recent speculation over his latest single, Kingston City.

In Kingston City, Demarco allegedly fires lyrical shots in the direction of Portmore Empire deejay, Popcaan. Demarco deejays, "Nuh mek mi mek forensic white chalk the street, yaaooow! Dem thief mi style and nuh ask mi fi it, mi hear behind mi back some bwoy a beat off dem beak but tell dem wey mi si heart nuh leap."

Since the video for Kingston City was released late last month, fans have wondered if the single was a diss track aimed at Popcaan. In response to the speculation, Demarco insists that the song was done as a freestyle to feature on his upcoming mixtape, Nuh Dirt. However, in a recent interview the Starkutt Records singjay didn't deny that some of the lyrics in Kingston City were aimed at Popcaan and even accused the Only Man She Want deejay of stealing his style.

In response to Kingston City, Popcaan has since released an alleged counteraction to Demarco's single entitled, Fry Yiy in which he deejays, "The whole place a sey Fry Yiy, some bwoy fi write some hit song and stop cry."

The Jamaican airwaves have been given a big boost as one of Dancehall music's most prominent disc jocks returned to radio on Tuesday.
Internationally acclaimed disc jock turned producer, ZJ Liquid made his long anticipated return to ZIP FM after serving a near four month suspension for an alleged breach of the station’s guidelines. During a set last December, Liquid played material which was deemed not fit for airplay by the Jamaica Broadcasting Commission, marking his fourth suspension for such an offense from the radio outlet.

However, after months of pleading from fans for the popular selector to regain his post on ZIP FM, ZJ Liquid graced the station’s presence, returning to his usual 2-6 p.m. Throwback Tuesdays slot and opening with a pair of gospel songs to help mark his comeback. This development was immediately met with mass positive feedback from fans, friends and industry players on Twitter and Facebook.
On Wednesday, Liquid took to his official Twitter page to thank all his supporters for their encouragement during his most recent ban.

"Big up everyone for their support and tweets and everything trust me. Them give me a reason to do this nuff respect everyone who say Liquid. God Bless," he tweeted.
Additionally, Team Liquid issued a press release on the zip jock's behalf, expressing gratitude for all the support while insisting that this experience helped reinforce the fact that Liquid holds social responsibility as a public figure and must uphold the standards that accompany this status.

Tifa wants more respect for female artistes, denies beef with Timberlee

By Marc Parc
OutAroad.com Writer

Tifa_Lauren_show_entertainment.jpg

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall star, Tifa has worked her way to the upper echelon of the Jamaican music fraternity. However, she wishes industry observers would give her and fellow female artistes the respect they deserve.

Tifa recently gave an interview on the Lauren O Lauren (LOL) show where she spoke of her career progress as well as the growing issue of respect for women in the Jamaican music industry. Despite scoring several top ten hits including Bottom of the Barrel, Spell It Out and Dash Out, Tifa admits that the road to success has had its share of adversity; facing similar trials and tribulations that other prominent female artistes have endured within the Dancehall industry.

Part of it, Tifa feels, is that industry players fail to acknowledge the work female artistes put out in the mainstream, insisting that though things have somewhat improved, women have had to work much harder just to earn similar accolades to their male counterparts.

"I don't feel they give women the respect they deserve…To me we haffi work harder, me did haffi work three hundred times harder cause when I started, everyone saw my legs, nobody neva did hear wah come out a mi mouth or go 'Oh, she too cute fi a sing Dancehall' cause at that particular time you had to look a certain way, dress a certain way, act a certain way to be a Dancehall artiste and I guess I kinda broke the mold," she said.

Perfect Giddimani's Journey of 1000 Miles

Perfect_album_journey_1000_miles.jpgAs the saying "forward ever, backwards never" suggests, progress on the journey of life is the result of hard work and perseverance. It is with this mentality that Dynasty Records is about to present the album Journey of 1000 Miles from international reggae artist Perfect Giddimani.

Dancehall's Worl Boss Vybz Kartel's Benz and other assets returned by cops

By Marc Parc
OutAroad.com Writer

Vybz_Kartel_s-class_benz.jpgSeveral assets belonging to prominent Dancehall superstar, Adidja Palmer, more popularly known as Vybz Kartel have been returned after being held by law enforcement officials in recent months.

Last year, several media outlets reported that the prominent deejay's S-Class Mercedes Benz, as well as documentation pertaining to properties that he owns were seized following Kartel's arrest in September and subsequent murder charges. The seized assets were reportedly being stored at the Police Commissioner's office in St Andrew.

However, it's now being confirmed that Kartel's Benz, as well as his passport, laptop, amongst other assets have been released to the Portmore Empire leader's family. Reportedly, they were released as early as last month.
Vybz Kartel remains in jail despite copping JA$40,000 bail on a drug charge as well as JA$3 million in the Barrington 'Bossie' Burton murder case. Kartel stand accused of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in that matter.
However, the 'Gaza' deejay cannot post either bail given murder and obstruction of justice related charges he faces in the Clive 'Lizard' Williams murder case. Those charges stem from an alleged incident last August in Havendale, St. Andrew.
Kartel will return to court on April 13.

Beenie Man's Expected BET Performance With Nicki Minaj Might Not Be Possible

By Marc Parc
OutAroad.com Writer

beenie_man_sad_bet_cancel.jpgJust a day before the highly anticipated return of Beenie Man to an American stage, issues regarding the prominent deejay's visa have once again come of the forefront.

Beenie Man was set to perform alongside Trinidadian-American hip-hop superstar, Nicki Minaj on BET's 106 & Park in New York on Tuesday. The duo were scheduled to perform their new hit collaboration, Gunshot, the first single off Minaj's new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded which will be unveiled on Tuesday.

However, Beenie Man's management team now claims that the iconic Dancehall artiste cannot meet his performing obligation on the BET show. The 'King of the Dancehall' does not own a work permit but does hold a visitor's visa, which he received last summer and seemed in a good position to carry on with his performance.

But according to media reports, there is some lack of clarity in relation to whether Beenie Man's performance on a major American television network such as BET would qualify for a royalty distribution, in turn, possibly violating terms of his visitor's visa. As a result, Beenie Man's management team refuses to put their client at risk.

“I AM ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT CREATING GOOD MUSIC FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE FUN”, SAYS KONSHENS

konshens_bubble_gyal_artiste.jpgDancehall artiste Konshens says he is more focused about making good music and pleasing the fans as opposed to competing with any artiste.

The artiste, who is currently burning up the charts with Do Sup’n and Gal a Bubble, has responded to a belief among music enthusiasts that he wants to ‘run the place’.

In a release to the media, Konshens (real name Garfield Spence) said "I just want to make great music, have fun and be able to support my family. At the same time I want to continuously maintain an interest in my music and the Konshens brand".
