Controversial Dancehall superstar, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer has spoken publicly for the first time since being charged for murder on Monday night.
The internationally acclaimed deejay was initially arrested last week Thursday at a small hotel in New Kingston; charged with possession of ganja. The following day, Kartel was taken to a series of premises he's believed to own or frequent before being held in custody at a Kingston based jail last weekend. Reportedly, a badly burnt body was found in one of Kartel's residences in Havendale, St. Andrew weeks prior. On Monday, "Di Teacha" was charged for murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in relation to the shooting death of a St. Catherine based businessman/promoter.
Earlier on Friday, Kartel made his feelings known publicly regarding his legal woes via an audio tape he sent out. In the tape, Kartel calls out the police who arrested him; saying, "Dem seh wi a fugitive, system a pre di Gaza general." Furthermore, the self-proclaimed "Worl' Boss" sang a few lyrics expressing his thoughts on the arrest. "Di system a pre mi, dem a seh mi is a don nuh call mi so, true mi help ghetto youths weh no have enough. Why you do dat Missa Officer? why you come inna mi house a search so fa? Meanwhile, it's being reported told that Kartel plans to release a single, in the near future, talking about the accusations made against him and why he feels singled out by law enforcement.
On Friday afternoon, Kartel pleaded not guilty to the charge of ganja possession in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. The artiste's preliminary hearing, where he will answer to the aforementioned murder charges, has been tentatively set for October 13th.
