The future of Vybz Kartel's reality series, Teacha's Pet is unclear after telecommunications outlet, LIME officially withdrew their sponsorship from the program.
LIME issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that they would no longer broadcast episodes of Teacha's Pet via their mobile television outlet, LIME TV. This is a direct result of murder charges issued against the show's centerpiece, Vybz Kartel on Monday night. In their statement, LIME intimated that the serious nature of the charges brought against Kartel was the key factor in their decision to discontinue showing uncut episodes of the popular reality series. LIME TV had been broadcasting "Too Hot for TV" clips of Teacha's Pet, via their Peppa Channel, each Friday at 11pm; an hour after its original broadcast on CVM TV.
Since the announcement, fans and Dancehall observers alike are wondering whether or not Teacha's Pet will be taken off the air given the loss of their biggest sponsor. According to various reports, producers of the show are currently in discussions regarding the future of Teacha's Pet; implying that a decision on its future will be made very soon.
Yesterday evening, IRIE FM reported that a representative from CVM TV claimed that the station would no longer broadcast the show as a result of Kartel's legal issues. However, CVM TV has yet to formally announce any decision made regarding Teacha's Pet.
Kartel was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in connection to the shooting death of St. Catherine based businessman/promoter, Barrington Burton aka "Bossie." A preliminary hearing regarding the case was postponed for a second straight day on Wednesday as the case file remains incomplete.
