Patexx - Any Day Now: Alliance Next Generation!

patexx_alliance_next_generation.jpgOne of the most exciting Dancehall artists to emerge from Jamaica for 2010 and 2011 is Patexx (Any Day Now). Called to be a part of Alliance Next Generation by the Dancehall General, Bounty Killer, Patexx takes the genre from version 1.0 to version 2.0 with his signature brand and style.

Born Rohan Rankine in St. Thomas, Jamaica, Patexx always incorporated music, whether singing or DJ’ing, as a part of his upbringing. In school, the artist could be heard singing over beats made from the drumming of his friends on the desks in their classrooms. His musical influences, even at a young age, included Bounty Killer, Mavado, and Spragga Benz. Because of his ability to sing as well as DJ, friends and class mates called Patexx ‘Sizzla’ because of his constantly singing Sizzla’s music.

A chance meeting with fellow female artist Passion X (associated with the Ward 21 Music Group), resulted in Patexx getting his name. Passion X said “it will be impossible for you to make it in the business because the name is taken. To me you look like a ‘Patexx!’” From then, the name stuck! Though Passion has passed on, Patexx gives her honor for blessing him with his distinguished name.

Twin of Twins Defending Dancehall with Gangsta Comedy

Twin of Twins - Stir It Up Vol. 9 Available - Debuts in the Top 10 on iTunes

Trial_Error_Stirt_it_up_Twin_of_twins.jpgRoughly 5 years ago, I was travelling the United States with a well-known reggae band, when on one particularly long drive a band member threw in a CD on the radio while the driver wasn't paying attention. Next thing I knew this one CD had all of us in the van laughing hysterically on what had previously been a boring ride. This was my first introduction to the "Gangsta Comedy" of Twin of Twins. 5 years and 4 volumes in their "Stir It Up" series later, I still laugh every time I hear these albums. I recently sat down with Patrick and Paul Gaynor, aka Curly Loxx and Tu Loxx to discuss their place in the culture of dancehall, their plans for the future, and their latest release Stir It Up Vol. 9 - Trial and Error.

"Basically, it's satire based on reality, done in a fun and joyful way," states Curly Loxx. He explains it as the Saturday Night Live of dancehall music. The term they use is "Gangsta Comedy," which the brothers say is not gangster in the criminal sense of the word, but rather changing the meaning to survival. To them, being "gangsta" is about the garrison culture, evolving past the gun and bringing fun to the culture. The latest volume includes parodies of well-known figures like Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Bounty Killer, Mutabaruka and more. As with previous volumes, the good-natured parodies are bound to have their supporters and detractors.

Tad's Record is 'Pretty Like A Colouring Book'

JAMAICA'S LEADING LABEL TO RELEASE COMPILATION FROM DANCEHALL'S LEADING GIANT

colouring_book_album_cover.jpgGuaranteeing music lovers 'the ultimate Reggae experience,' Tad's Record is set to release Colouring Book, a compilation of the biggest radio and street anthems of 2011 from Dancehall's undisputed champion Vybz Kartel. In keeping with Kartel's controversial nature and unrestricted lyrical prowess, the album will feature both the raw and edited versions of twelve of the deejay's sizzling singles. Colouring Book will be hit digital outlets Tuesday, July 19th.

According to Rolling Stone Magazine, Kartel has "dominated Jamaican airwaves with outré, tongue-twisting tunes about everything from X-rated antics to ghetto politics." Colouring Book shows off the many shades of Vybz Kartel, from the playful feel-good anthem "Summer Time," to the ultra naughty "Benz Punany," and the spiritually uplifting "Jah Love We." Other stand-out tracks include "Look Pon We," featuring producer/deejay Russian, and Kartel's freestyle monster "The Lyricist."

The album gets its title from Kartel's controversy stirring single "Colouring Book (Tattoo Time Come)." Described as the "most talked about figure in Dancehall" by the New York Times, Vybz Kartel set off a media fire storm world-wide this year for lightening the complexion of his skin to heighten the color of his tattoos. On "Colouring Book," Kartel thumbs his nose at critics by proudly proclaiming "mi skin pretty like a coloring book."

Beenie Man Lands Endorsement Deal For Yaad Swag Rum

beenie_man_yaad_swag_rum.jpgInternational recording superstar Beenie Man has secured a lucrative new endorsement deal with American businessman Corey Todd to develop a new line of liquor products.

"I am the one to sing rum and Red Bull so if me ah go promote and endorse a rum, it has to be mine. I am looking forward to promoting this product and creating a successful partnership with Corey Todd," Beenie Man said in a release.

The deejay, who is currently hard at work on a studio album to be distributed by Universal Records, is looking forward to a global marketing campaign which will roll out soon to promote the brand, Yaad Swag, the first product that has been produced under this new partnership.

"Beenie Man was signed because he is an icon in music and he has a huge passion for the brand. He was the first artiste that I approached to work with when I first came to Jamaica four years ago. However, for various reasons, he was busy flying all over the place so we didn't get the chance to co-ordinate and work it out. This is going to be bigger than Street Vybz, more international and it's going to be great for dancehall," Corey Todd said in a release.

Superman Steels The Crowd In Brazil

tarrus_riley_brazil.jpg

The population of more than one million in Sao Luis in Brazil barely speaks a word of English. Yet the thousands, who came out for the annual Loveland Reggae Festival, sang along word for word to the edible treats served by Tarrus Riley, the man they have now dubbed as their very own ‘Superman’.

Riley and his Blak Soil band comprising saxophonist Dean Fraser were in top form at the recent event, reeling out hits one after the other.

Riley’s cover of Robin Thicke’s single Superman is one of the most popular songs in Sao Luis, receiving frequent rotation on reggae, pop and R&B radio stations. It came as no surprise that patrons were wearing Superman pendants, and ringtones bore the Superman track.

"This is good for me in particular and Jamaican music in general," Marz said. "Daniel is really such a talented guy and so humble about his success. I give thanks to be a part of this project," Ovamarz added.

Buju Banton sentenced to 10 years in prison

Grammy-award-winning star Buju Banton has been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the US for his role in setting up a cocaine deal in 2009.

buju.jpgThe singer, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was told at Tampa federal court that he must serve five years' probation following prison.

Previously the Dancehall artist had insisted in court that he had been merely boasting about the deal.

Prosecutors conceded he had never put money into a deal or profitted from it.

His record Before the Dawn won best reggae album at the Grammy Awards ceremony earlier this year.

In February the star was convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute it, along with a further drug trafficking offence and a gun charge.

He was acquitted of a fourth charge for attempted cocaine possession

It was Banton's second trial - his first ended in September when the jury was unable to reach a verdict.

Much of the case hinged on video and audio recordings taken by an informant and by Drug Enforcement Administration personnel.

The informant was paid $50,000 (£31,000) after Banton's arrest in December 2009, along with two others.

One video shown to the jury showed Banton apparently tasting cocaine in a Florida warehouse.

A co-defendant later gave the informant $135,000 (£83,705). He and another man pleaded guilty to drug charges in the case.

Konshens to excite NY’s Amazura in July

konshens_amazura_club_entertainment.jpgAlthough Konshens officially made his name in the dancehall from 2008, his career path has not followed that of the typical dancehall act who makes New York and the Tri-State area their happy hunting ground.

Konshen’s NY debut was in three years when the song Winner was at the height of its popularity. His other show there was a cameo appearance in 2010, when he performed the combination single Good Girl Gone Bad alongside reggae singer, Tarrus Riley. And, while both performances were memorable, Konshens hasn’t really yet performed for the New York massive. But that opportunity will present itself on July 15 when he will be one of the featured acts at club Amazura in Queens, and what a night that promises to be.

“I’m excited,” Konshens said simply. “I see this as my first real show in that city and it’s a show with great acts - Jadakiss and I-Octane are the headliners - so you know, the adrenaline is pumping. Turbo charged and ready,” he said laughing.

Tivoli Killings Inspire Droop Lion's "Freeway"

According to Droop he was inspired to write this song in May 2010 in the aftermath of the killing of over 70 persons in Tivoli Gardens western Kingston as a consequence of the impasse between Jamaican law enforcement personnel and residents of that community. The globally publicized gun battles between civilians and Jamaican law enforcement officers also resulted in several persons fleeing from Tivoli to other inner city communities such Kingston 11 and Kingston 13 where Droop resides.

In "Freeway" Droop sings -
"When the barrel cracks and the smoke smell
Mama sing a prayer for me
She put her arms around me and say this place gonna set us free"

International dancehall duo RDX had been spending extended hours in the studios working on various new projects. The eccentric musical brothers have been spreading their musical wings with songs not typical of the usual high energy that fans have grown accustomed to.

Songs including Put It On You for Krushproof Music and Champion Sound for Blaqk Sheep are just some of the songs that showcase the new horizons that the duo has begun to explore.

In a release to the media, group member Delomar said "RDX has had major success with songs that talk about dancing, girls and the whole party vibe and we will continue to feed those themes to our core audience. However we have never been shy to take on new challenges or explore new horizons".

With this in mind the duo has recorded Murderer for the I-Strong label and The Hustle for Blaqk Sheep. These are two message oriented songs on slower, authentic beats.

Beyoncé's mama Tina Knowles has more of a diva attitude than the 'Bootylicious' singer:

BY GATECRASHER
nydailynews

Beyoncé is a diva onstage, but it sounds like her mother is one all the time.

beyonce_mother_tina_knowles_video.jpg

An onset source for Beyoncé's "Best Thing I Never Had" video, which was shot in Westchester County on Wednesday and in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, on Thursday, tells us although the bootylicious Beyoncé was sweet as sugar on set, it was her mother, Tina Knowles, who demonstrated some serious divalicious 'tude.

According to the insider, the four assistants (count 'em!) the elder Knowles had following her around were calling her "Miss Tina" - "which sounded like a joke." But it wasn't: "The crew was told to call her 'Miss Tina' if they were to talk to her at all," our source reveals.

Her real inner prima donna was displayed on Thursday, while the "prom scene" shoot was filmed at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple near the Pratt Institute. Tina, who heads the House of Deréon fashion label with her eldest daughter, "flipped out on the camera guys for making Beyoncé stand near the [video] extras for too long" because there was too much conversation going on between takes. Apparently, Mama T was "worried" the lowly extras would talk to her darling daughter.

But it was the other way around. Beyoncé "was fine with [talking to anyone]. She was making everyone laugh."

New York Times - Managing a Brand He Made Himself

vybz_kartel_new_york_times.jpgSHORTLY before 10 p.m. on the final night of Best of the Best, a reggae and hip-hop concert held over the Memorial Day weekend in Veterans Park in Miami, DJ Nuffy, the master of ceremonies, began to introduce the dancehall reggae artist Vybz Kartel. But Vybz Kartel wasn’t actually in the park, in Miami, or even in the United States. He was more than 500 miles away at Jamaica Jamaica, a fancy nightclub just outside Ocho Rios, because he has been denied a United States visa.

“And now for your feature presentation, the biggest thing in Jamaica,” DJ Nuffy roared, adding “him look like Michael Jackson.” The sly remark - referring both to the artist’s enormous celebrity in the Caribbean diaspora and to his controversial practice of lightening his skin - drew laughter and mischievous cheers from the crowd of some 10,000 who stared intently at a screen on the stage where artists including DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes and I-Octane had performed just moments before. “Let’s welcome via satellite, live to you, Vybz. Vybz. Vybz.”

The crowd shouted “Kartel” in unison as his image filled the screen. He wore a purple suit with a loosely knotted silk tie and button-down shirt, his pale brown tattooed face framed by aviator glasses and a mane of black hair extensions. “Yo, Miami, you know what time now?” he asked, checking his wristwatch as the stuttering digital beat for “Touch a Button,” his chest-thumping challenge to rivals, started to play. Before long Vybz Kartel’s rapid-fire flow had the audience spellbound.

Formila One On The Rise

formila_one_bio_reggae_jamaican.jpgGavin Orlando Kerr aka Formula One Nationality Jamaican born June 22, 1983,raise in Kingston 5 Rousseau Road. I began my musical journey when I was three years old, singing at church. I had to go to Sunday school every week where I was one of the lead singers on the junior choir and was a member in a next major group called the Rosary, eventually I was the only male vocalist.

Music professionally started for me at age 17. In the year 2001 I recorded my first song {Can't Forget} which was done at Joe Gibbs Recording Studio on the Fire Fire rhythm that was made by Bassie but was not released. Being around some great musicians made me learn what I was getting into, learning the business side of the music as well as the physical, l moved on to other studios such as Fams House ,Sugar Minot, Uprising records and many other where I got special grooming mostly at Fams House. My musical inspiration came from artists such as Wayne Wonder, Pinchers and Buju Banton and many more.

According to Ne-Yo reggae as the potential to reap as much success as other intentional genres but because of the lack of proper marketing expertise might be one of the reasons why local artistes are deprived of mainstream success.

Excerpts from "Voice of the Ghetto" By Vybz Kartel Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2 - 'Dollar Sign(hustle di money)'

vybz_kartel_book_cover_tattoo.jpgI start the song, by repeating “hustle the money” “me a hustle the money” almost to make the message subliminal. Careful. Read again. Haters, critics, read again and listen carefully - its hustle the money not steal the money, not take a gun and rob the money, not start a ponzi and con the money- just hustle the money. I stress the point repeatedly because there is a sector of society that believes when ghetto youths acquire ambition for financial success it means that we are going to begin to embark on some unscrupulous or illegal behaviour to rob people money. I often wonder why the elite of society don’t think us ghetto youths don’t want the same for our family as they do. NEWSFLASH, we waan go big school, drive nice car too, we would like ac in our house, we want our mother retire young and yes we want to be rich, there, I said it, Vybz Kartel want Ghetto people to be rich. Babylon, deal with it.

Society, likes to blame us poor people for Jamaica’s weak economy. Not true, not fair. The only thing I have heard creative where government is concerned is how to increase and make new taxes. That does not make sense, in fact, there is a term for it - we have a regressive tax system where the poor is forced to bear the biggest burden and the rich keep getting away. They recently tried to tax patty and pad hard. Rich man don’t eat patty for lunch and rich ladies shop in foreign. Our government so good at taxing, they found a way to tax Jamaicans overseas by putting over a 100% levy on calls coming in on a landline, even the US companies begged for us but our government said no, tax them.

Khristopher_video_jamaican_reggae.jpgJamaican vocalist Khristopher, has managed to create a buzz for himself with his latest pop single titled "Do Whatever" on various radio stations recently.

Produced by André "Dretegs" Hawthorne on the Fifth Element Records label, the track has an up-tempo vibe with a catchy hook and a melodious flow. It is a Dancehall/Reggae track but with a crossover appeal for both lovers of Pop and R&B. Several music industry insiders have elatedly expressed their delight at this track, suggesting that it is a great follow up to his previous single "Heartbeat Away", an R&B style track.

With all the rave reviews and the confidence received from his team, Khristopher had decided to shoot a video. Rihanna gets a 'boob guard'

rihanna_boob_guard.jpg

While it's common for celebrities to hire bodyguards, singer Rihanna has gone a step further and kept a booby guard to protect her assets from being groped in public. Apparently one lucky fellow has landed the job of Rihanna's 'boob minder' when she steps out wearing risqué clothes. And not surprisingly the man is totally dedicated to his job.

Recently, the booby guard, who was pictured cupping her assets in Australia a few months back, kept his eyes on the prize while escorting Rihanna after a club gig in Montreal, reports Sun.uk.

Considering Rihanna's penchant for revealing dresses, seems like this man has his hands full!

bounty_killer_mavado_photo.jpgMavado and Bounty Killer have been listed as persons of interest by the Half Way Tree Police concerning an incident which happened last night on the outskirts of Quad Night Club (Bounty Killer's Its Da Party Celebration).

Police are yet to release further information as to why the two are wanted for questioning. However according the a spokes person from the Alliance Camp majority of the those who made reports on the matter had it wrong…You can read the statement below from the Alliance Camp.

Obviously we cant say too much at this point in time as its the subject of an ongoing investigation but we need to clarify one thing: false reports have been circulated by the media that this incident stemmed from Mavado refusing a search upon entry to Quad nightclub.

That is completely untrue, Mavado and his party were already inside the club, past the search area where there was no issue with anyone. We are asking for fair and balanced reporting of this incident, there is always a lot of false information propagated when these stories break but that doesnt mean to say we must blame Mavado automatically.

Konshens Adds More Spice To Grenada

konshens_performing_dancehall_artiste.jpgThe Spice island was ready for Jamaican reggae act, Konshens, and, if his winning performance was anything to go by, then he too was ready to make an impressive Grenada debut.

The event, Digicel Reggae Fest, was held recently at the Grenada National Stadium and also included on the line-up were heavyweight reggae acts Sizzla, Coco Tea and Jah Cure, all of whom did very well.

Konshens was the first Jamaican act on stage and, for him this was a double responsibility. Not only did he have to ensure that he captivated his own fans by throwing down a great performance, he was also opening for artistes whom he considers icons in the music business and he couldn't afford to be anything other than spectacular.

But he isn't called Konshens for nothing and with calm and confidence, coated with a little swagger, he worked his set like a pro. He started with the ever popular Good Girl Gone Bad to get the place pumped up and after that, it was smooth sailing as Konshens delved into his repertoire for songs such as This Means Money, Prety Devil, Rasta Imposter, Realest Song and Simple Song.

Dancehall Artiste Mavado Walks Free

mavado1.jpgBy Contributor

David Brooks pka Mavado attended St Ann's Bay RM court this morning to answer a charge of Malicious Destruction of Property, laid against him two weeks ago.

Mavado maintained his innocence from day one and since he was charged it came to light that the complainant who's property was damaged never gave a statement accusing Mavado of damaging property. In fact, Mavado should never have been charged.

David Brooks was called to the witness box first thing as court opened and the Judge immediately issued a No Order in the matter.

"Mr Brooks, you are free to go," instructed the RM.

Mavado wasnt even on the stand for 30 seconds. The complainant indicated that she could not proceed against Mavado as that is not the statement she gave and case was dismissed.

"I am relieved its over at the first appearance," said Mavado. "But i am not surprised. I was surprised when i was charged, but I knew the truth would come to light and I would be quickly vindicated. Although it appears at times we get a fight I had to keep faith that the Jamaican justice system would rightly set me free. I damaged nothing or no-one so I just remained confident with that knowledge. To God be the glory."

Mavado intends to continue trodding the positive path he has been on for the longest while, with new releases and videos coming soon. The video for smash hit Delilah will be shot next week.

Mavado is also planning a fundraiser for the Maxfield Park Childrens Home, a cause he has taken up recently.

Sizzla Kalonji - The Scriptures (Music in My Soul) - John John Records

sizzla_scriptures_album.jpgSizzla subscribes to the Bobo Ashanti branch of the Rastafari movement. He was raised in August Town, Kingston, where he studied mechanical engineering. Sizzla Kalonji has released over 45 solo albums and over fifteen combination albums, crossing different genres of Reggae and into hip hop. Sizzla, is one of the artists credited with leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality and social consciousness, exploring themes such as Babylon's corrupting influence, the disenfranchisement of ghetto youth, oppression of the black nation and Sizzla's abiding faith in Jah and resistance against agents of oppression.

With The Scriptures, Sizzla has collaborated with famed producer Lloyd ‘John John’ James, Jr., son of the legendary King Jammy, to create an album both thoughtful and intriguing. Jamaica's finest musicians, including Jackie Mittoo, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Dean Fraser, Bobby Ellis and Vin Gordon, to name a few, join sweet harmony vocalists Fiona Robinson, Camar Doyles, Connie Francis and Sherida to produce a full, multi-layered background for Kalonji's varied vocal stylings in a surprisingly rootsy style.

Excerpt from "Voice of the Ghetto" By Vybz Kartel - Chapter One

CHAPTER 1: THANK YOU JAH Excerpt

"I start this book as I start each day of my life, with a "Thank you Jah" for giving Adidja Palmer the inspiration to be Vybz Kartel; may the words on the pages of this book be well received, may it touch the heart of the oppressors of my people so that they may treat the poor with compassion. May it be a tool that Society will utilize to understand ghetto livity, so that you may change your impression of us and start treating ghetto people with respect - whether they are your helpers, gardeners, bar maids, drivers or any marginalized person in Jamaica. vybz_kartel_book_dancehall_jamaican.jpgMay it reach the desks of the prison officials so that they may implement more humane and positive procedures in our jails so that our people can be welcomed back into society after they have done their time. May it be a reference point for Jamaican males that have never taken the time to understand what our mothers, baby mothers, sisters and women in general go through. Most of all, may it be a source of motivation for my people especially the young ones as they find their way through life in this lovely place Xaymaca, its original name before the genocidal Christopher Columbus came to plunder and destroy an entire Amerindian people under the guise of Christianity. It is with this hope that I have taken the time to write this book in between my musical career and my role as father, and son; I ask that this book is blessed. The hate from the haters is expected but guess what, Kartel sending you a blessing too because the Gaza nuh bad mind. Come on, I know you going to read this book, that's okay with me, the only way we can have a better Jamaica is if we spend the time learning from each other."

Rihanna Defends 'Man Down' Video's Violent Scenes

'U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt!' singer tweets.
By Gil Kaufman
MTV

rihanna_with_gun_man_down_jamaica.jpg

A day after the Parents Television Council and other groups decried the violent murder scene in her new "Man Down" video, Rihanna took to the air and to Twitter to defend her clip from detractors.

"I'm a 23 year old rock star with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!" she wrote on Thursday. "Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why! ... Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD! ... The music industry isn't exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! It's your job to make sure they don't turn out like US."

The PTC took issue with the opening scene in the video, in which Rihanna is shown shooting an unarmed man in the back of the head in the middle of a crowded train station. Viewers later learn that the act was in retaliation for a previous sexual assault.

The PTC, the Enough Is Enough campaign and the entertainment think tank Industry Ears released a statement on Wednesday condemning the video for what the group said was an apparent enticement to young women to turn to violence.

" 'Man Down' is an inexcusable, shock-only, shoot-and-kill theme song," said Industry Ears co-founder Paul Porter.

The PTC lamented that Rihanna had a "golden opportunity" to use her celebrity status to send an important message to young girls and victims of rape and domestic violence with the clip, but had missed the mark. "Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability," said the PTC's Melissa Henson.

The singer later pleaded with her fans to stop making threats against members of the PTC, writing, "We love it, they don't ... that is all, and the world keeps turning."

She also called in to the BET show "106 & Park" on Thursday night to defend the clip, saying she didn't set out to spark any controversy, but isn't surprised she did.

"Rape is, unfortunately, happening all over the world and in our own homes, and we continue to cover it up and pretend it doesn't happen," Rihanna said. "Boys and girls feel compelled to be embarrassed about it and hide it from everyone, including their teachers, their parents and their friends. That only continues to empower the abusers."

Locals against Rihanna getting Raped in Jamaica - Man Down

Rihanna who recently came to Jamaica to shoot the video for her reggae hit single Man Down painted a distasteful picture of Jamaica said locals. In the video Rihanna went to club where she flirts with a guy while dancing with him… the guy however started to get too personal so Rihanna pushed him away, he then followed her after she left the club and raped her. Rihanna then ran home for her gun and gunned down her alleged rapist in the middle of the street.

rihanna_rape_video_jamaica_reggae_man_down.jpgSince the released of the Man Down, OutAroad.com has received multiple emails from dancehall/reggae lovers stating their anger against the video. As usual we went into the street to hear what others have to say about Rihanna's Man Down video.

"It's nice for her to shoot the video in Jamaica but I am not going to agree with the outcome of the story line. With a story line like that she should have went back to her home town with that because at the end of the day Jamaicans are already listed as bad people in the minds of many in international countries," said Carol Harris (Vendor).

Almost everyone that we interviewed disagreed with the content of the video especially Nigel Simmons who stated that Rihanna is not the only one as Drake came to Jamaica and did the same thing.

"All these people seems to be fascinated about is the bad image that they have created in their head about Jamaica. What Rihanna done was even more degrading, so I guess when a tourist wants to get rape all they have to do is book a flight to Jamaica. I can remember watching the news and when the broadcaster read that Rihanna was in Jamaica for a video shoot I was excited believing that this would have been a good look for Jamaica.

I-Octane's Women Mi Seh Was Written For Bounty Killer

I-OCTANE SEEKS INJUNCTION AGAINST FREE WILLY MUSIC OVER UNAUTHORIZED SINGLE

i-octane-rasta-jamaica-reggae-dancehall-artiste.jpgThe Management team of I-Octane would like to make it clear that the song “Woman Mi Seh” on the Coach Riddim that has been released by Free Willy Music is in no way shape or form representative of the music of I-Octane.

On the request of Arthur 'Whale' of Free Willy music I-Octane had written and recorded the song as a demo to be recorded by fellow entertainer Bounty Killa. The artiste's last involvement with the song was when he personally handed it over to Bounty. Although there was no written agreement to cement the above deal, it was understood by both parties that the demo was simply a guideline for Bounty Killer.

The management of I-Octane did not hear anything about the demo after over a period of three months, when the song was written. Unfortunately, this week the demo was released by Free Willy Music, which is contrary to the initial verbal agreement.

Although the recording uses I-Octane’s artistic vocals, he wishes to isolate himself from the content of the song since it doesn’t represent his beliefs, practices, or image. In addition, he has never performed the song and it is not a part of his musical repertoire.

Natalie Storm Is A "Monster"

DANCEHALL'S PUNK-FUNK DIVA ROCKS THE A-TEAM'S RUNWAY - JUNE 14TH

natalie_storm_monster.jpgIt isn't easy to put Natalie Storm in a box. Calling her a 'Dancehall' artist is as limiting as calling A-Team Music's The Runway a Dancehall 'riddim.' Storm brings her sassy punk attitude, ferociously funky delivery and Kingtonian slang to the A-Team's dance groove The Runway on a track, rightfully titled "Monster." The brazenly empowering "Monster" will be released digitally on The Runway album on June 14th.

The Runway, A-Team Music's debut full-length project, binds themes of love, hate, lust, anger, happiness, and frustration with the same underlying pulse, using different artists and various forms of Reggae, Dancehall, Pop, Funk, Rhythm & Blues, and Gospel to craft a soundtrack to day-to-day life. Wearing her emotions like a garb, Storm struts The Runway cloaked in the fierce and edgy designs of defiance with "Monster."

"It's an anthem for women who aren't willing to give up everything to be a part of anything," says Natalie 'Natalie Storm' Cole. "We've all wanted to be in a position to control, whether ourselves, environment or other people. It's just a natural instinct inside of us to be power hungry or a little selfish...there's nothing wrong with that."

MackaShowOffAward%20-%20IRAWMA%202011.jpgMacka Diamond is the proud recipient of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) Best Female International Rapper/DJ for 2011. The Dancehall artiste (who also wears the hat of that of Author and Actress) is overwhelmed and said “even though there were indicators that I could have won, I simply did not think about it and so it took me completely by surprise.” A pleasant surprise it must have been for Macka who also performed her popular Hoola Hoop and Cow Foot tracks to a very receptive audience at the awards.

The International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) celebrated its 30th year last weekend May 28th, 2011 at the National Academy of the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Considered to be the only awards show to recognize the contributions of Caribbean and World music for over 30 years, IRAWMA was founded by entrepreneur, publisher and TV personality Ephraim M. Dancehall Artiste Mavado roars in Cayman

mavado_cayman_island_concert.jpgGrand Cayman got its first up close and personal look at Mavado last Friday, as the Gully Gad gave his first ever performance there since bursting on to the scene in 2005. Cayman Islands had been one of the territories in the Caribbean that had declined Mavado entry up to this point but careful consideration by immigration and police there led them to take the decision that Mavado wasnt the stereotype they had been led to believe.

Upon his arrival Mavado was whisked to a welcome party at Margaritaville before the following day's round of radio and TV promotional appearances to convince Caymanians that he really was in the island. With anticipation at a high, Mavado performed at the famous Lions Centre in Georgetown to a packed house. Touching the stage at around 2am, Gully Gad rinsed hit after hit from his huge catalogue of anthems. Opening with So Blessed, Mavado had the crowd singing along to every word as he took them on a musical journey, ending with Star Bwoy. As always, the concert was packed with females who screamed and grabbed at Mavado throughout the 75 minute performance. After two encores, Mavado finally exited the stage but couldnt exit the venue for nearly an hour later as he took photos with hordes of fans.
