My fellow one-on-one readers, I want to first and foremost wish you a happy and prosperous new year and also thank you for staying true to www.outaroad.com. The first release for this year is about an artiste that has surpassed all expectations upon him and decided that he was going to break the mould. From St. Elizabeth in Jamaica he produced some of the songs that are on everyone’s lips. I am talking about none other than Protoje and you know your girl Shani has the scoop.

OutAroad: How long have you been in the music business?
Protoje: Seven years
OutAroad: How hard was it for you to start?
Protoje: It took a lot of time and effort but I knew that it was what I wanted to do so me did haffi make it happen.
OutAroad: What are some of the challenges that you faced?
Protoje: Maintaining patience because at times you want to jus buss and it’s gonna take a longer time than that.
OutAroad: Who is your role model in the business?
Protoje: My mother Lorna Bennett was a singer in the music business. As a matter of fact she is now my manager.
OutAroad: How do you prepare yourself for the stage?
Protoje: Just find a quiet spot to reflect, balance and bring myself to zero enuh. From there it’s all downhill.
OutAroad: What is your philosophy growing up?
Protoje: Each one, teach one
OutAroad: What’s your advice to other artistes out there?
Protoje: Just work pon yuh music
OutAroad: What’s your inspiration?
Protoje: The belief that good music will come through delayed gratification.
OutAroad: I know that your new album is out and it started at number four which continues to maintain its top five dominance on the iTunes charts. What’s next for Protoje?
Protoje: Well I have a tour in February (1-14) the ‘Rasta Love’ video to shoot.
