While the release date for the UK and France is set for next Monday, October 4, the album will be available in the rest of Europe this Friday, October 1.

The ninth studio album by the international music icon, Before The Dawn boasts 10 powerful tracks that comprise some of the most powerful songs written by Banton since his professional entry into the music business over twenty years ago. In an exclusive interview featured in the new issue of Hip-Hop Weekly magazine, Buju says, "All the songs on this album were written before I and I found I self in this current situation, yet they all speak profoundly to what I and I am going through right now... Buju Banton: Mistrial declared for reggae star charged in drug case

buju-banton-free.jpgTAMPA, FLORIDA - There's no verdict -- and no reason for there not being one. A jury in Tampa, Florida has failed to come to an agreement on the drug conspiracy charges facing Buju Banton.

So the judge has declared a mistrial in the case of the Jamaican reggae star. Banton was accused of conspiring to buy cocaine from an undercover police officer last year.

The 12-member jury had been deliberating since Thursday after a four-day trial. After a weekend
recess, jurors reported Monday they were having trouble reaching an agreement.

The judge aborted the trial after the panel sent a second note saying they couldn't reach a verdict. The jurors declined to tell reporters why they couldn't agree.

Banton has been held without bond since his arrest last December 10.

His attorney is asking the judge to release Banton on bond.

Buju Banton jury having trouble reaching a verdict

By ELAINE SILVESTRINI | The Tampa Tribune

buju-bantoncourt-pics.jpgTAMPA - Jurors in the Buju Banton federal drug trial are having trouble reaching a verdict.

After about an hour of discussion on what has been their third day of deliberation, jurors sent a note to U.S. District Judge James Moody telling him about their difficulties.

"Just for informational purposes," the note said, "we are still split on a decision and after reviewing evidence, nobody has changed their minds from our original vote on Thursday."

The case went to the jury Thursday after closing arguments in a four-day trial. Jurors were allowed to go home for the weekend.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, has been held without bail since his arrest in December on federal drug and weapons charges. The defense maintains Banton, 37, was entrapped. The government is using evidence of conversations Banton had with an informant.

Latest From The Buju Banton Trial

Posted by Mitch Michaels

Government informant testifies against Jamaican singer...

bujubanton-court.jpgBuju Banton's trial continued today, as the government informant he met on a plane and discussed drugs with took the stand.

The meeting between the two ended in a series of meetings and phone calls about buying and selling cocaine, which would lead to Banton's arrest.

The court heard audio recordings of their discussions today, including a conversation held on a plane from Spain to Miami at the end of Banton's European tour last summer.

"He told me he was involved in the transportation of drugs from Venezuela to St. Martin," Johnson said. "His involvement was he moved money himself for traffickers out of England."

The two met in Fort Lauderdale the next day and had numerous meetings and calls between July and December.

"Do you have any contacts where I can get cocaine?" Banton asked Johnson in one recording.

"All I do is finance," Banton said in another. When the informant admonished him for smoking, Banton replied, "I smoke herbs, man. A lot of ganja."

A video was also played of Banton tasting cocaine during the drug deal that would end in his arrest.

Buju Banton's Drug Trial - "Where I can get cocaine"

Posted by Mitch Michaels

buju_banton_pounds_40.jpgBuju Banton, a Jamaican music star, began his trial today for drug charges. Banton was arrested in Florida last year when he tried to buy cocaine from an undercover officer. The prosecution is arguing that Banton was already an established drug trafficker when he was arrested.

"Do you have any contacts where I can get cocaine?" Banton asked the undercover officer. Banton wanted "more, new and different money through a new conspiracy he was shopping for" to go along with his drug dealing.

Banton has been in prison without bail since December. His lawyer says he never participated in any drug deals, despite the conversation with the officer.

"Yes, Buju talked a lot," his attorney said. "Yes, he tasted that cocaine. No, he wasn't a drug dealer. He wasn't part of the deal...He's got nothing to hide. The truth is on his side in this case because he didn't do anything."

Banton was arrested with two other guys trying to buy cocaine. The two other men are now planning to plead guilty and testify against Buju. Both men plus the officer say Banton used his finger to taste the cocaine before they were busted. Banton's lawyer calls it "the biggest mistake of his life," claiming Buju was a victim of entrapment.

by Lindsay

andrew-and-wada-irie-mtv-freshmen.jpgWith the change of season it seems as if everyone is moving away from hazy, sun-drenched summer tunes and pumping up with dance beats and hip hop. The Freshmen came down to a voting duel between Andrew & Wada Blood and Homeboy Sandman, with Andrew & Wada Blood eventually pulling through for the Freshmen win. Congratulations to the brothers! Their video will be added into regular on-air rotation by Monday.

I wanted to note that Trampled by Turtles received a lot of support in the comments section as well, and it was heart-warming to see a rather neglected genre getting so much love. Check back in next week for a new round of Freshmen artists and a new chance to vote. In the meantime, you can follow me and mtvU on Twitter for musical updates.

Future Fambo on a musical high with Rum and Red Bull

fambo-rum-red-bull.jpgIf you happen to see a deejay walking like a ‘swaggaholic’ and Drinking Rum & Red Bull, chances are it’s Future Fambo. That’s because the self-styled ‘Drunken Master of the Dancehall’ has returned, and if what he says is true, he’s here to stay for quite a while.

As the saying goes “three’s a charm” and for Fambo, this is the third time he’s basking in the adoration of dancehall fans. And he is determined to make this relationship more than a one-night stand, because there is just too much at stake.

“In 1994 I come with Hiyahiyahoo; in 2006 I gave the dancehall Break Dance and now in 2010 I say Rum and Red Bull, I say Swaggaholic and I say This Life” the deejay who used to go by the name Future Troubles stated. “And I have the tune dem stock and pile. Just ask producer Seanizzle,” he challenged.

Fambo’s fans have welcomed him back with open arms as, according to him, they were just “waiting for a song that represent the artiste and I gave it to them”. There is no doubt that the single Rum and Red Bull, featuring Beenie Man, has given Fambo a new lease on life. In fact, life is so good that he has a permanent smile plastered on his face.

One On One OutAroad With Cilon

ONE ON ONE OUTAROAD

Greetings my fellow one on one peeps, I know that you are just thirsting to know
who's next on the list. Today I bring you one on one with a new artiste. She hails from Jamaica but currently doing her thing abroad. Her name is Cilon and One-on-one just had to get in touch with her.

cilon-female-artiste-jamaican-outaroad.jpgSetting: One the phone, outside UWI Students’ Union
Interviewer: Shanique Campbell AKA Shani
Interviewee: Cilon

Real Name: Claudia Clarke

Age: 25

OutAroad: Where are you from?
Cilon: GAZA!!!!! Lol portmore, Waterford to be exact… I think that's Mexico.

OutAroad: Why Cilon?
Cilon: Me and a friend were up one night and we came up with the name and it stayed with me ever since.

OutAroad: How long have you been in the music business?
Cilon: Seriously, 2 years even though I have been recording since 1999 in Jamaica and I wanted to sing since 1998. I even started a group with some friends.

OutAroad: How has the journey been for you so far? And being a female in the business?
Cilon: Challenging… I just put out my first single "Hot Gurls Anthem" ft. Sotto Bless. I believe that there is definitely a difference in the reception of men versus women. In order to succeed, some women have to perform favours for producers but I believe that you have to respect yourself in order for someone to respect you. Your talent should speak for itself.

Lady Gaga wears a meat dress - need we say more?

lady-gaga-meat-dress-outfit-vma-mtv.jpgLady Gaga wore a meat dress at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. When she collected her video of the year award, she asked Cher to hold her meat purse. Ellen DeGeneres offered the pop star a veggie bikini during a chat afterward. And on Monday, PETA announced it was grossed out - something about the likelihood of maggots in the dress.

Yawn.

So what did we learn Sunday from the woman who won video of the year?

During Gaga's interview with DeGeneres, it was revealed that members of the military had walked the white carpet with the singer to bring attention to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on homosexuality. You had to go beyond that interview, however, to learn that the folks accompanying Gaga had actually been discharged because of military policy. Hey, she's a pop star, not a communicator. At least she wasn't out on the carpet throwing water balloons.

She told the vegan DeGeneres: "I, as you know, am the most judgment-free human being on the Earth." In case any of us were wondering. Perhaps in case anyone thought judgment had been used in selecting the ensemble.

Serani Hots up Labor Day Weekend - US

Fellow artists and industry movers and shakers, as well as a slew of fans all expressed how hard Serani went at the sold-out Reggae Tip, held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, lauding him for best performance of the night.

"I think my performance surprised some people because I think they might not know how hard and how often I've been working," said Serani. "I've been pretty much touring straight for two years non-stop and I've worked really hard at my stage craft. We've also been focusing on markets that could be described as non-traditional for Dancehall acts and really been trying to break those as well. I've been to Europe three times already this year so we're just trying to get the music out there on a wide scale. Every artiste did very well at On Da reggae Tip and it was a great platform for me to showcase how far I have come."

Lady Saw on 106 & Park!!! plus NEW single MADDD

THE QUEEN OF DANCEHALL LADY SAW RECLAIMS HER CROWN WITH ‘MY WAY’

lady-saw-promo-pic-jamaica.jpgGrammy-winning dancehall pioneer, Lady Saw is back naughty, nasty and explicitly electrifying with her new album My Way set for release on September 7th, 2010. The record, her first with Toasting Music/Diva Records, distributed by Fontana/Universal, follows the 2007 release Walk Out, her final album on the reggae label VP Records. Saw’s latest collection, featuring collaborations with multi-platinum rapper Eve and Ding Dong as well as production by Lady Saw along with Tony 'CD' Kelly, Lloyd 'John John' James, Danny Browne and Stephen McGregor, opens a new chapter for Saw and Divas Records productions.

“I wanted to have the independence and freedom to do things 100% my way. I can tell the producers what I want for my riddim and say what I want to say in my songs. No one is telling me what I can or can’t do on this album,” says Lady Saw.

Born Marion Hall, Lady Saw remains true to her sexually empowering, cheeky lyricism on My Way, but with an eye on reaching a wider audience. Whether it’s liberating anthems like “Every Way Mi Go” and “Party Til December” or her uncut delivery on “Muscle Control” and “5 Minutes,” this 16-track collection is jam-packed with radio ready tunes and the hardcore style that put Saw on the map with her massive 1994 debut release Lover Girl. She also gives listeners a glimpse of Miss Marion Hall, her softer, more mature side, on the title track “My Way” and “I Am A Woman.”

Nicki Minaj Confesses - "I Don't Like Boys"

She isn't married to Drake, and doesn't even like 'boys'...

nicky-minaj-girl.jpgApparently Minaj purposely wanted to cause a stir over the net by pretending to be married to Drizzy.

She told DJ Drama: "Drake is just my little brother and I kid with him all the time. That's all. Yes, yes, we were just being crazy and I think we were a little bit bored. I wouldn't say we were bored, but we were being just mischievous.

"I did another interview and they asked me and I said, every day I see things written about me that aren't true.

The Your Love hit-maker went on to claim that she finds boys ‘yucky’ and she doesn’t actually like men:

“So I wanted to kinda give the blogs a little bit of payback and put my own story out [laughs]. I don't date boys, I don't like boys (laughs). It's true, I think boys are yucky and that's it. There's nothing more to say."

chris-martin-guyana.jpgChris Martin can safely say his name has once again been edged into international history. He finally answered the call of duty issued by his Guyanese fans by making an appearance last Saturday.

The event was dubbed Fuse -Hotel Towers with Chris Martin taking his fans through a full set of his older and current catalogue. He had the ladies and gents fully entertained and at points screaming for more. Alongside X2 (TIMES TWO) Vanilla, and D-Major, Chris closed the event which proved to be one of the longest performances to date as he blazed the stage for 1 hour and 20 minutes. “It was truly a pleasure being in Guyana, myself and D-Major felt as if we were right at home and the response of the fans were truly overwhelming. The crowd was somewhere between 2000 and 2,500 but they made me feel like there were 70,000 ...the entire experience was pure love and I truly appreciated it.”

Chris however, wont let the noise stop just yet in his ears as he will journeyed to the Hard Rock Cafe, in Orlando to share stage with fellow label mate Shaggy for another performance on Sunday, where he will once again left fans wanting more.

New York City Loves Macka Diamond

macka-diamond-new-york.jpg

Maybe New York City, the city so nice they had to name it twice, New York-New York, is home away from home, well, at least for some of our Dancehall luminaries such as Macka Diamond, who can never seem to do any wrong there.

The Labour Day weekend that just went by was testament to that, because the verdict is in, and the decision is unanimous, New York City loves Macka Diamond! They sure do, because when you have even uniformed police officers partying, there shouldn’t be too much question about your popularity, right?

Billed to perform on one of several labour day parades in the city, Macka was in peak form as she reeked havoc on the City with a performance that left the men salivating and the women screaming; because there was no question about it, New York women, especially after just going through a recession, love the talk of money, and aren't too shy when it comes to the topic of bun either.

Also in the city was Morgan Heritage, Spragga Benz, Mr. Vegas and International recording sensation, Ricky Blaze.

Bikini-Clad Rihanna Shows Off Gun Tattoo on Thigh

Rated R for revolver?

rihanna-gun-tattoo-body.jpgRihanna spent her Labor Day soaking up the sun and the surf in Hawaii.

The singer, 22, showed off her physique in a skimpy, turquoise bikini. Seen on her right thigh? Yet another tattoo -- this one of a life-size gun.

The "Love the Way You Lie" singer already has over a dozen tats -- but a source close to the star tells Us this one's not real. Instead, the source explains, the temporary tattoo is for her role in the upcoming flick Battleship, shooting now.

Last month, Rihanna showed off new, bonafide ink on her neck which read "rebelle fleur" (roughly "rebel flower" in French).

On Tuesday, the star announced, via Rihanna Daily, the title of her upcoming new album: Loud. The new songs will be "sassy, fun, flirty, energetic," she said. "I'm just gonna be ME, cuz that's what you guys love the most, and that's what makes me feel best! Just being normal, normal for me is LOUD!"

Lindsay Lohan: From 'Machete' to the 'Most Offensive' Movie Ever

By Bryan Alexander

Lindsay%20Lohan%20in%20Underground%20Comedy%202010.jpgAfter years of bad behavior, evaporating movie work, and a 14-day stint in jail for violating probation, Lindsay Lohan is mounting a comeback. Sort of. On Friday the former Disney child star returned to the big screen for the first time in three years, playing a drug-abusing, spoiled wild child who dons a nun's outfit and mows down bad guys in Robert Rodriguez's bloodfest Machete. She's also gracing the cover of the October issue of Vanity Fair, in which she's quoted as saying, "I want my career back."

Machete winks heavily at Lohan's past: between the promotional poster, featuring a habit-clad Lohan suggestively licking a massive pistol, and the outrageously self-referential subplots (we first meet Lohan's character being rescued, barely conscious, from a drug den), the filmmakers appear eager to tap into her tabloid queen reputation.

But that's nothing compared to Lohan's other completed project, an appearance in Underground Comedy 2010 - a film proudly promoted as "the single most offensive movie you'll ever see" - written, directed, financed by and starring Vince "The ShamWow Guy" Shlomi.

Shlomi, who goes by Vince Offer in the movie, is better known to late-night television viewers as the infomercial pitchman behind the super-absorbent ShamWow and the Slap Chop kitchen gadget. He has been trying to break into the movie business for a while on the strength of Underground Comedy - a collection of tasteless sketches he's been working on since 1996 that was released briefly to horrified mainstream reviews in 1999 (The New York Times referred to the film as "wretched").

Cush Hunta Living His "Ready Fi Buss" Dream!

cush-hunta.jpgCush Hunta, ‘is a DJ warrior from the nineties Dancehall experience who battled at a time when the music industry was a cut - throat business. He fought his way on the music scene with the overwhelming power of his voice….”

March 2009 Cush Hunta approached Calvin Hunter, a young Banking Executive, to manage his career. The partnership brought about a rejuvenation of the artiste career after a 1 year hiatus from the limelight. After forming The Corner Stone Productions Label, a comical follow up to his independent produced "Greens" single; entitled 'Mawga Bwoy' along with a video for the song was released. The focus was now extended to personal growth, an important aspect in the life of any artiste whose ambition is to reach for the stars. Cush Hunta then spent many months interacting with industry insiders and the media; he did a host of interviews, social interactions and live performances. To date, Cush has accomplished two major feat, that of recording with reigning Reggae Queen Marcia Griffiths and landing a major distribution deal for his "No Skylarking" single with Media Sports and Entertainment (MSE). Songs released and getting heavy rotation on radio include; Ready Fi Buss, No Skylarking and A De Same Ting.

Better Mus' Come Film - Trailer

better-mus-come-film.jpg

Better Mus' Come is a coming of age drama set in Jamaica's turbulent 1970's, against the backdrop of the Cold War. It is a dramatic telling of the Green Bay Massacre, ghetto life and political deception of that time, and a storyline that continues to ring true to today’s social, political and economical troubles in Jamaica.

This is the first major film written and directed by Storm Saulter and produced by Paul Bucknor. Better Mus' Come will definitely open doors to some social commentary about the 1970's and 2010 political atmosphere in Jamaica.

The third week in October will host celebrations in memory of Jamaica's National Heroes. The Wednesday prior will host a momentous debut. On October 13, the must see movie Better Mus' Come will open in Jamaican cinemas island-wide.

Rapper T.I. arrested for drug possession in LA

ti-arrest-drug-charge.jpg(Reuters) - T.I. whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., 29, was arrested with his wife on Sunset Boulevard Wednesday night after police smelled marijuana coming from a car in which the Grammy award-winning rapper was a passenger.

He was booked for possession of a controlled substance and was released after posting bail of $10,000. He is yet to be formally charged because testing is currently being conducted on a handful of "pills resembling ecstasy," a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County sheriff's department said.

T.I.'s next court appearance has been set for Friday.

The Atlanta-born rapper and actor previously has been in trouble with the law, including numerous arrests on drugs and weapons charges. He was released from a halfway house five months ago after being sentenced to a year in prison on federal weapons charges.

The co-founder of Grand Hustle Records, distributed by Warner Music Group's Atlantic Records, he currently can be seen in the heist film "Takers," that grabbed the No. 1 spot at the North American box office last weekend.

'Inclusive Saturdays' launches with Greatness!

inclusive-saturdays1.jpg

"Inclusive Saturdays", held in The Building kicked off last weekend with its "Launch to Greatness" edition on Saturday night. Thinking outside the box, the promoters had a few surprises up their sleeves for the happening. With much experience individually, Chad Williams and Deane Shepherd have come together with Street Vybz Rum to create CDC events. "The theme behind Inclusive Saturdays is to introduce a mixed drinks inclusive event with the dancehall vibe". Each week, Street Vybz mixes will be inclusive but look out for specials from other products".

Street Vybz Rum, no doubt a staple in the dancehall community, offered party goers many options for the night; a mix with orange juice, pineapple, fruit punch and other fruit mixes. Party cups in the hands of patrons showed they fancied the mixes as requests for top-ups kept bartenders and waitresses busy throughout the night.
