TAMPA, Fla. -- The attorney for Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton wants his client moved from the Pinellas County jail - for diet concerns.
Attorney David Markus filed the motion Monday. A hearing is set for Friday morning.
Banton has been in jail on a drug charge since December. The motion says he's lost 40 pounds and was not given a diet in accordance with his religious views. He's a Rastafarian, a religion that places importance on a vegetable- and fruit-based diet.
The attorney also claimed that the government used a paid informant to convince his client to buy cocaine.
The 36-year-old singer, born Mark Myrie, pleaded not guilty to a drug charge in Tampa federal court.
Banton's trial is expected to begin in April.

40lbs a nuff weight fi lose. Lawd mi a tell nobody knows how dem life going to swing. I do like Buju and all I can do is pray for him. Can't some a di Jamaican ppl in Florida get together and take him some irish moss, calaloo and tings. I mean di man need some bwile banana, ackee and peanut soup.
