The journey to Titchfield High in Portland was a long one, but as the RE School Tour bus snaked its way through the hills, the musical ambassadors had one thing on their mind. To administer the message of abstinence make sense.
Titchfield High was the first out of town location for the latest stop on the RE School Tour, and the students welcomed it with open arms.
Sponsors Coke Zero, Claro, and the National Family Planning Board smartly decorated areas within close proximity of the stage area with various branding and booths. The students visited each booth either to refresh themselves; trade in cell phones; or to equip themselves with valuable information about sexual behaviour.
It was pandemonium as the musical ambassadors including Stacious, Mixing Lab, Tifa, Chino, G Whizz, Konshens, D Angel, Timberlee, Alaine, dancers Shady Squad and gospel deejays Prodigal Son and DJ Nicholas disembarked the tour bus and made their way into the backstage area.
Students screamed, waved, shouted and some even cried as their favourite entertainers hit the stage one by one reeling off their hits while reinforcing the message, abstinence make sense.
One student, Kenny rushed from the back of the audience and headed to the front row just to touch his favourite singer Alaine, who was rocking the audience with her smash hit Make Me Weak. 'I love you Alaine', Kenny shouted, as Alaine smiled and cooed back in acknowledgment 'I Love you too'.
A female student had tears rolling down her brown cheeks, as Chino belted the words to his hit 'From Mawning'. An autograph and photo opportunity with the dancehall artiste immediately dried her teary eyes.
The metal barriers almost gave way, as students tried to touch the entertainers. Security personnel on duty worked overtime to keep the excited students under control.
Ministry of Education representative Matthew Mothersill did his usual presentation advising the students about the importance of staying in school, and keeping a positive attitude, while refraining from any form of anti social behaviour.
Jerry D's Vibes machine pumped the musical hits, and RETV host Snoop Roc kept the students busy with giveaways from the sponsors.
Dancehall artiste D'Angel commented that she felt the message of Abstinence Make Sense was resonated throughout the afternoon's proceedings. "The kids were ready and the vibes was really good, and most importantly the message I am quite sure, was felt," said D'Angel.
The RE School Tour is promoted by RETV and 3 Sixty Marketing. It is presented by Coke Zero and associate sponsors Claro, Mothers Patties and the National Family Planning Board.
The RE School Tour airs Saturdays at 2:30 PM and 7 PM on RETV; and at 4:30 PM on TVJ. It repeats on RETV several times weekly and at 5 PM, Thursdays on TVJ.
