Protoje On The Wrong Side Of The Law With New Single

protoje-ed-for-promo-reggae.jpgHouse Of Diggy recording artist Oje Ken Ollivierre aka Protoje recently returned from a promotional trip of England. The talented artist who can easily be listed as one of the break out artists of 2009, did several radio interviews while in England and performed along with his mother Lorna Bennett at the recently held Lovers Rock Awards Gala. Since the release of his debut single Arguments a few months ago Protoje has been making quite a name for himself, having peaked at the number ten position on the RETV top 20 Reggae singles chart with Arguments. Its accompanying music video topped the RETV MVP chart for five consecutive weeks and the TVJ FI WI Choice Top Ten Video chart for eight consecutive weeks. He has also delivered show stopping performances at events such as Jus Jugglin & Jamnesia.

Since his return to the island almost a week ago Protoje has been very busy as he continues to work on his soon to be released album, The Seven Year Itch. He has also dropped his second single from the album titled Wrong Side Of The Law. In this song Protoje challenges the validity of Jamaica's law books, as it pertains to marijuana. The song was inspired by an experience Protoje and his friend Dutty Bookman (formerly of News Talk 93 FM) had been through, while on their way home from a late night studio session. Hence their decision to collaborate and pen the song.

Playing the role of storyteller, Protoje skilfully recounts their encounter on that night with some members the Jamaica Constabulary Force, with lines such as: "I got caught up on the wrong side of the law bout dem charge mi fi mari wa". "But I need to reach home before tomorrow sun goes up". "Sometimes the dragon and the beast manifest itself in the form of the police".

The hard hitting track that features biting lyrics about the police displays a more rebellious side of Protoje, who reels of his lyrics over riveting roots reggae rhythm ably provided by The Uprising Band. The background vocals were done by Janine Cunningham aka Jah 9 who is a hot new singer on the live show circuit in Kingston. Wrong Side Of The Law was produced by The Uprising Band.
