Those at Campari, in addition to congratulating Baylis, say they will be meeting with her in an attempt to configure her hectic schedule, in hopes that it won't disrupt her involvement in next month's Campari Caribbean Poster Girl Competition in St. Lucia.

Trishauna Kirlew, Campari's Brand Manager said, "Campari congratulates Kerrie on her stellar achievement and we are confident that she will represent Jamaica well under the title of Ms. Jamaica World 2009. Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm whether or not this new role will affect her ability to continue in the Campari Caribbean Poster Girl competition. However, we are nonetheless very proud of her and her achievement and we will be discussing her new achievement and future plans with her in the upcoming week."

Would it hurt to have someone of dark/brown complexion to compete in these pageants. I guess they wouldn't stand a chance anyway, Jamaicans are to frighten for color.

This is the year 2009 and Jamaica still has to choose our beauty queens only if they have European features. Over 90% of Jamaica's population is black but yet those who represent us in pageants are always white, Indian or Chinese mix. How can we tell our women not to bleach their skin color and wear hair extensons, blue contact lenses etc. when it is clear that our society prefers and rewards those who are furthest away from their African appearance. All dark or brown skin Jamaican women should go procreate with white men only then, since they only want a mulatto society. I am sorry to rain on this girl's parade, but for too long we are giving colonists the advantage. I am sick of it.

Now see, if tables were turned and it was a black chick from a "white" populated country, she would never even make it to the auditions.

Atleast us black folks are openminded. Still, looks odd even though it's normal.

Wish her the best and hope she does a good job repping for JA. This is Jamaica's year...

You would think that there would be enough white women in the pageant without Jamaica sending one. I'm very disappointed.

ohhh boy....honestly the different types of girls that have one have been very versatile...from a rasta girl few years back...to some brown skinned to dark skinned..this is the first time ina long time ive seen a white Jamaican win....

Heres another issue its not about your colour..its about who shines in the competition..simple...

Plus geez...im darkskinned...my mother is biracial and my dad is indian...whats the problem...you can get more jamaican that me...when it comes to culture and background...

ppl it better dem pick a white girl because they would never let a black girl win miss universe.i was watching miss universe and i was disappointed not even one black girl in the top ten and the girl that represent jamaica to me she is the winner or maybe im bias.....hopefully this girl can win miss world because mi work mate dem from the caribbean a come talk bout the girls dem from guyana and trinidad look better than jamaican and i was piss off bc i know its not true

I would like to congratulate this girl for trying and winning this contest, it shows we give all a chance in Jamaica. I am however sadden that she was not of African decent with our trademark curves and features. This would be a better representation of what majority of Jamaicans resembles. I am not hating on the players in this game I'm hating on the game!! Who are these judges, what were their motives? Maybe they thought we had a better chance of winning with a white rep. than a black rep. Hell who knows! I will take comfort in the fact that we are represented in South Africa and wish her well. Good Luck Girl!! I'll be watching and cheering whatever happens.

She looks like Donald Trump, not attractive at all yuck! She needs a tan immediately she's way too pasty and she's flat as a pancake,I've met her so I know that she's badly shaped, ugh ,she needs to get a dye job also, because that hair color is washing her out and her make up is so not working for her.

@Nikki British When we are having a discussion on these forum that is all it is. You don't have to tell me to s@ck my mother. You can disagree with me without incorporating such hostile language. I am not trying to start any bickering back and forth - all I am saying: let us be respectful to each other.

Kami:

Kerrie was the best person to win the competition as she outshone all the other contestants.

You all need to stop be racist and let her be. All the other dark girl just didn't captivate the audience and the judges. When a dark skinned girl is chosen you complain that she aint pretty enough etc when a light skinned girl is chosen you complain that she's too white. There is no pleasing you Jamaican.

Instead of criticizing these ladies go and try it for yourself and see how you do.

Kelisia:

Kami it has absolutely nothing to do with her color, she is just a plain jane, there's nothing about her that makes you go 'WOW SHE'S GORGEOUS' ,she has the shape of a boy who's going through puberty, and her face is horrible for the Miss World Pageant, and she has no grace, now Yendi Phillips had style ,she was fun and amicable, and intelligent and pretty ,she stayed true to herself and is kind-hearted,she has all the characteristics that a Miss World or a Miss Universe should have. I think Campari should hire her(Kerrie) to work as their temp, remember Kami this is a beauty contest, now would you honestly say that Kerrie is breathtakingly beautiful and commands people's attention? Oh my,I sympathize with her because the Puerto Rican girls are beautiful not to mention the Indians and the Mexicans plus they know how to make the judges sit up and pay attention, they will salsa all over her,Jamaica is choosing the wrong girl to represent them abroad once again, and they wonder why they lose every year.

Susan:

Jamaicans are frightened for white. She was selected by Imani Duncan and others who are Black Jamaicans with colonial mentality

this lady does not represent jamaica cuz 90% of the island is of african descent this just give more cause for the bleaching epidemic in young girls

Frankly speaking:
Posted by Frankly speaking | August 29, 2009 12:16 AM

There is nothing attractive about this girl....I think the judges got it totally wrong this year.

I don't think that beauty contests should be taken too seriously. Everybody has their own individual idea of what beauty is. If the judges decided that Kerrie was their choice then so be it.

GetALife:

Every time a light girl win, I always hear, "Wah bout the dark one dem?" Were Tonoya Toyloy, the beautiful rasta chic, Sarah Lawrence, April Jackson, Aleisha Richards and the rest of dem dark ladies chop liver? Did they not exist and not have their time to reign as pageant winners? It is the STUPIDEST comment to make when you say that X girl should not be chosen because she doesn't represent the majority of Jamaica. IF THAT SHOULD BE THE CASE, then the black women who have won Miss USA should not have been there because America is statistically majority white. Those who not satisfied with the winner going have to deal with it, cuz nuff other light chicks going to win in the future. And all those criticizing Baylis should probably step their ugly butt from behind the computer and actually try to enter a competition as hard and as selective as this one. My God, is bere racist ting some a unnu deh pon. "Out a many, one people". Learn it.

I did't know that there was still so much racism in JA; Out of Many One People - I wish Kerri Baylis all the best and hope that she represents JA real well; why is it everyone believe that a Jamaican beauty queen should always be black or brown - seems like people forget the history of Jamaica - we are a melting pot like it or not. One love.
