Years ago, the two entrepreneurs took their love for music, along with determination and foresight and built a small but compact studio in Kingston. Consisting of a voice room the two built themselves; a lounge and an operating room, other than a keyboard on hand its mainly computers that dominate the Chimney. Starting out in 2002 with a component set, speakers and a computer McClure and Hayle took the love they had for music since their days at Campion High and made it into a lucrative business. Having both been classically trained in piano the producers learnt a lot of their knowledge through practice and learning on hand. While Hayle pursued a degree in Economics at the University of the West Indies, McClure did a brief stint at Creative Sounds learning his way around the equipment that he would later master.
After meeting producer and artiste, Delly Ranx things started to turn around for the two as Ranx introduced them to the industry showing them how to get their songs out in the streets and introducing them to other artistes. For Ranx, they made a number of rhythms including 'Cherry Tree', 'Gangsta Prayer' with Sean Paul's Play Di Music, 'Shooter' with Vybz Kartel's Weh Dem Feel Like and Mavado's Threat Dem A Sen. The rhythms continued with the 'Troublemaker' and 'Soul Seeker' where they started to voice more diverse persons such as Bounty Killer, Einstein and Bramma. It was Vybz Kartel, however, that gave Chimney their first taste of fame with the song that helped establish their career as talented youngsters to look out for with the smash hit Trailer Load of Money.
Known for possessing an unusual sound that is quite different from other producers in the game Chimney Records is always experimenting. The duo constantly mixes their diverse tastes in music with the music of the time- dancehall but at the time tries to surpass the boundaries of genres. Hayle describes Chimney music as being, "not exactly traditional but a fusion of different genres, we have a love for all types of music there are elements of hip hop, R & B, pop dancehall is the foundation but is cross over"- which is the ultimate goal of the duo to make it Internationally. If ‘Movie Star’ is any indication, Chimney Records has what it takes to make it great.
