Bob Marley's firstborn son speaks out in defense of his father

Earlier this week, Grammy Award-winning recording artist Ziggy Marley stopped by VIBE’s New York City offices to talk about his latest release, Family Time (Tuff Gong / Universal), as well as a new album of his father’s classic songs, many of them remixed for young listeners, called B is For Bob (Tuff Gong / Universal). At the end of the video interview, Bob Marley’s firstborn son shared his views on a controversy that has engulfed Jamaica for the past two and a half weeks.
On April 22, the veteran reggae star Buju Banton- who has been nominated for three Grammys himself - was speaking at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, about his latest release, Rasta Got Soul (Gargamel Music). Banton spoke at length about his own distinguished career, but one of his remarks resonated louder than the others.
"You know they say that the greatest musician in Jamaica is Bob Marley," Buju told the crowded room. "I don't believe that because we have greater musicians to come. Bob was the most promoted, and well promoted, and we have to appreciate that because it's our culture. But don't kill our culture… Enough is enough."

We thank you for attending BEST OF THE BEST 2009 held on Sunday, May 24th in Miami, Florida.
We are aware there were challenges faced by media officials, including the closing down of the media pit during the show and keeping you mostly contained to the media tent. Due to sporadic rainfall and soaked park grounds, we were faced with potential hazards with wires and water on the ground and also slippery surfaces in the media pit. Under pressure from fire department officials, we were forced to close down certain areas to ensure your safety.
We realize that many of you journeyed near and far and made personal sacrifices to make yourself available for our event. We are already working on solutions to the issues at hand to make the next staging a friendly environment and positive experience for you.
We look forward to your coverage of this year’s show and your participation in BEST OF THE BEST 2010. Please send us your feedback and coverage to bestofthebest@gmail.com.

Star & Buc Wild, the hot-button personalities over at VladTV, have finally stepped up and called out what many of us have been thinking but haven't quite wanted to say about T.I. - specifically his extremely lenient (366 days) prison sentence, despite convictions for possession of three loaded assault weapons and explosives (grenades) - with prior felonies to boot.
T.I. may be sitting in jail as you read this, but Star & Buc Wild pull no punches in taking the Grand Hustle rapper to task for the suspect circumstances surrounding his sentence.
T.I. is addressed in the clip as "Officer Clifford Harris," going above and beyond calling him a snitch, straight up suggesting that the presently-incarcerated rapper is on the po-po payroll. The bitch of it is that he makes a damn compelling case. Extra points given for the shout out to Perez Hilton at the 2:06 mark, calling him by his true name, "bitch ass."
With the recent release of the 'Movie Star' rhythm the dynamic duo from Chimney Records has only proven that their talents cannot be denied.

Big Ship recording artiste Laden found himself on the wrong side of the law yesterday evening (May 27, 2009) after he was arrested by the Junction Police in St. Elizabeth for disorderly conduct and cursing indecent language.
According to reports, one of Laden's friends was caught talking to a female student when a police officer intervened and told her to go home, as she should not be roaming the streets in her school uniform.
OutAroad.com gets to understand that Laden then challenged the cop by telling the student not to leave. By then Laden and the police officer were already engaged in an intense argument that resulted into Laden curing expletives.
Laden is scheduled to make an appearance in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrates Court today (May 28, 2009).

Troubled singer Rihanna has thrown herself into her work since returning to the spotlight.
And despite saying little about the alleged attack on her at the hands of ex-boyfriend R&B singer Chris Brown, the 21-year-old is content to let her actions do the talking.
Rihanna sizzled in a sheer boned basque as she teamed up with rapper Kanye West in the video for his new track Paranoid.
Although she says nothing, her confident appearance speaks volumes.
Despite it being West's video, he was content to let Rihanna take centre stage and she is seen tossing and turning restlessly in bed and striking a series of seductive poses.
She later swaps the rather risque lingerie for an eighties-style white body con dress.
Rihanna has appeared at several high profile showbiz events over the last few weeks, while former lover Brown, 20, has been in hiding.

Born of the name Darrio Johnson born in the small district of Deeside, Trelawney, Darrio Dane-Jah was exposed to music by his mother, a singer whom due to lack of funds had to place her music aside and moved to Kingston in search of employment opportunities.
Living in Kingston Darrio made several musical links to players in the industry, and as such, he was able to light, the torch and pick up where his mother left off. Dario's real motivation begun while he was still in high school, where he displayed, his talent at various school concerts. The experience he gathered pushed him to pursue a full time career in music. The first major highlight of his career came in 2005 when he entered in the Guinness undisputed competition where he advanced to the second round, which aired, on CVM TV. The competition proved to be a successful avenue as he was placed second overall, earning him a place on Guinness Sting 2005.

Since the release of the movie Angels & Demons, it is now possible that local entertainer Sleepy Hallowtips who's managed by Bomb Rush Records will now has to source a new name for the potentially hit single which is of the same titled name.
OutAroad.com has been getting numerous emails from dancehall lovers wanting to know if the young deejay single was added to the soundtrack.
However, the question is who has the rights to Angels & Demons, Sleepy Hallowtips or the directors of the movie Angel & Demons?
According to the copyright laws, the directors will certainly get the upper hand especially that his song is not close to the mainstream recognition the movie as obtain in just one day.
Bay C of TOK and the CEO of Bomb Rush Records admits that this will certainly affect the potential of the Sleepy's song. "It can either be good or bad."
Firstly, Bay C has no plans on changing the name of the song because he doesn't believe the directors of the movie will think of them being a treat to the popularity of the movie.
"I don’t think there will be no trouble at this point but what I know is from once the song begins to get mainstream recognition then that's when we might have a legal battle on our hands."

Dancehall artiste Flippa Mafia aka The King of Flossing had the audience cracking when he lyrical attacked Bounty Killer at the Best of The Best show held on May 24 at Bicentennial Park in Miami, Florida.
When Flippa entered, the stage fans were expecting the usual Champaign spilling performance from the Flossing King.
Flippa however erased such thought when he decided to poke fun at the Alliance leader Bounty Killer with lines from his song titled Unfinished House produced by Liv-Up on the Good Life Riddim.
"Cause mi vehicle caan dera dan mi house...And mi rims caan dera dan mi couch ...Bounty a hype over unfinished house ...and all now him madda caan lef Water house.

When the OutAroad.com team and other media houses arrived at the Best of The Best event held in Miami, we were all treated like prisoners as the promoters restricted us from moving freely. The stage was not media friendly because Photographers/videographers were only allowed to shoot the artistes from the left side only. However, shortly after that side profile "luxury" came to an end as the promoters decided not have any photographers or videographers near the stage. Therefore, since there was nothing to capture - the OutAroad.com team decided to capture the views of the patrons listed below.
Loraine aka Lora, Age: 24
This will be my last time attending this show it has nothing to offer. I enjoyed Destra and Beenie Man performances they both represented for their countries. Mavado mi dads mi lose off a yuh, you should have never performed along with the Alliance, Mavado has too much hit songs fi a share mic with Bounty, Serani and Kiprich. Mavado needs to know his true potential and stop acting like he's a child - it's time for him to step out of Bounty's shadow and grow up that Alliance thing not working for him anymore - time fi him start focus on the youths dem from the Gully.
------------------------------------------------
Comar Daley, Age: 20
A Gaza mi seh and will never stop saying Gaza, yow mi can’t wait fi Kartel get back him visa and teach di Alliance how fi work stage shows, Serani, Bounty, Kiprich and Mavado all together couldn’t even mek one. Serani nuh sound good, Bounty songs dem old, Monster Empire were not there for Kiprich to clash wid and Mavado was just not in the mood to perform. Beenie Man should have been the one to close the show, these artistes need to ask Beenie Man what's his secret for giving a good performance.
------------------------------------------------
Camilla Edwards, Age: 26
Personally this show should have named Best of The Worse, mi nah lie some of the artistes apart from Beenie Man tried to entertained but mi never expect Elephant Man fi displayed such a boring performance and then here comes Serani right after Elephant Man who seems to be searching for the right voice to sing his songs, mi love Serani songs but him must know seh the way how yuh dress has a lot to do with connecting with the crowd, so when him ran on pon stage in a stripe polo shirt and waan old pants dat nuh mek it. Beenie Man is really di king of the dancehall because while performing Beenie realized that him never a gwaan wid nothing and then right away him just lift him performance level and done di place, by dissing up Bounty and the Alliance.

While on the set, of his latest video 'She's Happy' ft. Delus, Saturday morning, Konshens while performing a very physical stunt, (which included him being accosted by a police officer, played by his brother-Delus). However while the scene was being shot, Konshens was accidentally slammed into the front glass of Avery's Beauty Concept at Bujon Plaza, Molynes Rd, causing the glass to shatter.
Luckily, he failed to receive any major injuries to his face, however due to the direct frontal impact; several small pieces of small glass had entered the cavity of his eyes. This resulted in a postponement of several scenes in the video, and cancellation of his scheduled performance in Montego Bay for Saturday Night. The decision came after a family doctor recommended he remained in Kingston, for observation, if irritation to the eyes continues into Sunday.
Konshens wishes to apologies, and inform his fans, that he is recovering well, and that he is in fact in dismay, as he was eagerly looking forward to see them, and as such at the earliest time possible, he will aim to make an appearance in Montego Bay.

Alicia Keys the new girl
Swizz Beatz wants his soon to be ex-wife to shut the hell up. The hit rapper slash producer has requested a gag-order in the his divorce proceedings with the R&B singer, Mashonda. Since splitting up last year, rumors have gone around that the reason the couple broke up was the relationship between Swizzy and singer Alicia Keys.
Mashonda's lawyer, Bernard Clair, said everything was "flying under the radar until Mr. Dean and Alicia Keys went public about their long-term affair and he released a song implying that he likes it when Alicia serves him breakfast naked. Now that Mr. Dean's questionable conduct is being scrutinized, he suddenly wants a gag order and the media to be locked out?"

I am asking for your help, advice, anything that will help me to get rid of this feeling
Dear Mr. Proppafix,
I know this might seems extremely weird to you but for me it’s happening and I would love for what I am going to explain to you to stop, but I am addicted to what is also addicted to me and that is my little sister. I will not disclose anything much about her or myself because it would be shameful if our parents were to ever find out.
This is the dilemma I have been facing, I went away to study in the States, after a few months away from home I found myself thinking a lot about my sister by my father’s side of the family. I guess by now you have picked up what I am talking about. She thinks a lot about me as well. At first it seems like nothing but now I think I am losing it because the last time when I came to Jamaica, she introduced me to her boyfriend and I could feel my heart crying, from then until now it has been affecting me, whenever I think about her having someone else. Even so, we still shared moments together, but I hate to know that she has a boyfriend now.
Mr. Proppafix I think I am in love with my sister and I am asking for your help, advice, anything that will help me to get rid of this feeling. At this moment, I am not seeing anyone else and sometimes just by thinking about my sister it feel as if I have the world but now that I am getting more mature, I am beginning to realise that what we are doing is wrong but yet it feels so great.

The poised yet audacious singer/songwriter Queen Ifrica unveils her highly anticipated LP Montego Bay on June 16, 2009. Her strikingly complex Rastafarian voice achieves a rarefied balance on this 12 song selection with a stirring mix of spiritually empowering anthems, lover's rock tunes and searing social commentaries featured on this dynamic debut for VP Records.
The dancehall styled title track addresses her hometown of Montego Bay's glaring discrepancy between its pristine five star resorts verses the grim realities of a city wracked by poverty, violence and unemployment.
Her uplifting first single "Lioness on The Rise" (produced by Donovan Germaine) exudes her courageous and fierce nature at heart, then she displays her romantic side over a mesmeric one-drop beat on the rapturously sung hit "Far Away" (produced by Rickman Warren) and on "In My Dreams" (produced by C. Hurst), where her quixotic husky tone is reminiscent of the iconic song stylist Nina Simone.
She also tells a poignant tale of child molestation on "Daddy" (produced by Kemar McGregor) which has already received worldwide recognition and reached the top of reggae charts, even though certain sectors within Jamaican society attempted to get the song banned because of "Daddy's" subject matter. "I wanted corporate Jamaica to realize that if a society is engulfed by violence we have to look at the homes where these violent tendencies are coming from," remarks Ifrica.

Put him in an Olympic stadium or a shopping street in the centre of Manchester and the result is the same: total annihilation.
The frightening thing is that the big Jamaican, who pushed back the boundaries of possibility last summer when he won three gold medals in world record time in Beijing, insists he is still only 70 per cent fit following an interrupted winter and the loss of nine days' training after his car crash last month.
His winning time in Sunday's rarely run 150 metres was an eye-popping 14.35sec, smashing the previous best-known time for the distance of Canada's Donovan Bailey - 14.99sec run on bend against Michael Johnson in 1997.
Britain's Marlon Devonish was a distant second in 15.07sec. He admitted Bolt was in "a league of his own".
Bolt's time will now be ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations as an official 'world best', though it is his 100m split-time that will send shockwaves across the world - 9.90sec on a rain-soaked track in temperatures more common to February than mid-May.

It appears that R&B singer Ciara will be expecting a little one as wild rumors are now circulating on the internet that the R&B diva is pregnant.
Several attempts were made to get in touch with the diva, which turns out to be unsuccessful. However, according to reports the Diva is anxious about joining Jay Z on his highly anticipated summer tour starting July 3 in Las Vegas, but if she’s expecting a child as rumored then that will certainly be a no, no for her.
VladTV's new Star & Buc Wild Show! Also shares similar sentiments saying, "Bow Wow Should've Gotten Ciara Pregnant," in one of their clips.

Mr. Vegas hit the #1 spot on the BBC 1 Xtra dancehall chart this week with his smash hit single, I Am Blessed, toppling Busy Signal's Praise & Worship and outshining Laden's Time To Shine. In the meantime, the single continues to vault up local charts, hovering at #3 on the Jamaica Music Countdown charts, #5 on the HYPE TV charts and at #12 on the OutAroad.com Top 20 Hot Singles Chart and still climbing.
"When the song starts picks up on those reggae overseas chart, then you know it is a hit tune, there is no doubt about the appeal and popularity of the song...it's a genuine hit. I performed it in Brooklyn over the weekend, and I passed through Squeeze's Rock the Mic show on Monday, and the song created a big vibe with the people, it connect big time," Vegas said.
Vegas flirted briefly with the idea of retirement last year, but has revamped his management structure and is ready to go at it again. He has hired a new manager, Khool head honcho Ray Alexander, while jettisoning Irish & Chin, his former managers. The singjay is now turning his attention towards a Summer tour and the completion of his new album.
"I am working on the album right now, we're trying to get the right label or distribution deal possible so that the album can do well. A lot of mistakes were made with that last album, and that was a big album. So we want to straighten out the business side of the creative process, so that the album can get the necessary shelf space and do well in the marketplace," he said.

With the impending release of "Our World" on the horizon, T.O.K's Roshaun Clarke is steadily showcasing his prowess on the music scene under another capacity - as Producer.
For the past year, Bay-C (as he is better known) has been making waves locally and overseas with the production of hit singles such as "Miss World", featuring TOK and Beenie Man, and riddims like Black Rain, Gargoyle and Money Tree. Despite what people may think, this artiste-turned-producer is not new to the production game. Already his work has been featured on Assassin's debut album "Infiltrate" as well as Bounty Killer's "Art of War - Mystery". Now finally, he has emerged with his own album.
"Bombrush Hour" was released on April 22, 2009 through JVC, Japan, which has been home to several other heavy-hitters on the reggae/dancehall scene – Mavado, Elephant Man, Mighty Crown and T.O.K all fall on their roster.
Since the release of his latest single Arguments and its supporting music video which was directed by LeAnn "Dream Seeker" Ollivierre of Dream Seeker Productions. Things are looking very bright for House Of Dread recording artist Protoje. The DJ Kareem produced track has received the thumbs up from several top radio DJs who are giving Arguments good rotation on their shows, such as DJ Sunshine of IRIE FM, DJ Liquid of ZIP FM and Collin Hines of FAME FM. The talented young man who is from the parish of St. Elizabeth is already being hailed by industry insiders as an artist to watch.
Protoje first came to public attention with his mix tape Lyrical Overdose, Volume 1, which hit the streets and the internet in the summer of 2005. It was very well received by the public, featuring the likes of Busy Signal, Looga Man and fellow up-coming act Evaflow, along with production work by the likes of DJ Karim, Supa Hype and DJ Rush. Lyrical Overdose quickly placed him on the radar bringing the name Protoje to the attention of music industry insiders and the public.
Protoje is currently busy in the studio working on his debut album The Seven Year Itch. The album will feature production work from House Of Dread in house producer Chris Cooper, DJ Karim and himself.
Late last week, self-taken nude photos of a woman alleged to be award-winning pop star Rihanna were posted on the internet, and while no one from RiRi's camp has denied or confirmed it's the "Umbrella" singer in the pics, a rep for her estranged boyfriend Chris Brown is lashing out against online reports that he had anything to do with these photos making their way to the world wide web.
“This is both a false and defamatory statement," reads a statement from Brown's rep to Essence.com. "Chris has not released or ‘leaked’ any photos of Rihanna (or anyone else for that matter).”
What is not addressed in the statement is whether or not the pics are indeed of Rihanna and whether or not that is indeed Chris with what appears to be a pair of panties draped over his head in one photo.

Alliance stablemate Serani and Bugle are also on the UK tour. The Anger Management Band is the backing band for the London show, with Alliance selector Boom Boom also in the travel party.
Monday sees Mavado jetting off to Paris for his first-ever live shows in Europe, which will see the Gully god blaze a trail through France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.
"It's my third time in the UK and every time it gets bigger and better," says Mavado. "I will be performing in many new cities and countries on this tour which is exciting and I am looking forward to going to Europe to spread my music and represent Jamaica."

New York, N.Y. THE NEW HOST OF CARIBBEAN HOT 30 is DIVA NIKKI Z
Nicole Y Duhaney A.K.A "The Diva Nikki Z" knew she was made for radio from the first time she was placed on air. After serving four years in the U.S Army she was asked to guest host a local stage show in which to the promoters surprise she rocked the crowd and got the vibes going. The local radio host then asked "The Diva" if she would want to review the concert the next day on his program and this feisty radio personality could not refuse the chance. Little did the radio host know that he had given this multi talented young lady just the right initiative she needed.
After doing a year on college radio, the local hip-hop station Jamz 910 recruited her to host their Caribbean program called "Caribbean Vibes". That position garnered her much notoriety and had this Diva looking more seriously at the radio music industry. She then took a break for a short time and move to the Big Apple where she got involved with production work on the B.E.T program Turnstyle. On this program she served as field producer where she conducted interviews with some of the biggest names in Hip Hop; L.L Cool J, Nas, Musiq Soulchild to name a few. After spending 3 years in the Big Apple, she got a call that a major corporation would be launching a brand new Hip Hop station in CT "Power 104.1". Radio being her first love this media darling jumped at the chance to get involved with this powerhouse company. She landed the job as board operator for the "Wendy Williams show" and slowly worked her way within a few years to hold down not only 10pm-2am shift but also the 10am-2pm.

The female artistes all gave stunning performances at the IRAWMA awards held in New York City (Sunday 3rd May 2009).
Barbee was at her best and gave a fantastic performance, but what seems to be the focal point of the night was her well designed outfit. Barbee's outfit was however the most daring of them all. It was teasing, flirty and playful, throwing caution to the wind. Taurus Riley was heard to comment that she always brings flavor to the Red Carpet with her beauty and elegance. A "special gem" was how Bobby Clarke of Irie Jamboree described her, vowing that he definitely had to have her on his show this year.
To her credit, she did not leave the show immediately as her fans were waiting patiently to be greeted and more so to get a singed autograph from the Diva of Fashion. Afterwards several reporters from various media houses such as the New York Times, representatives from a few Caribbean presses to name a few bombarded her. New York certainly loved Barbee.

After a one week release Sizzla's new album Ghetto Youth-Ology ranks 4th on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums and Sizzla Invites All To Mama Lou's Thank You Mama Mother's Day Celebration, Sunday May 10th at 42 August Town Road, It's an early thing with special guest artist performing at 9pm. Music will be played by Fresh International and King Tafari. Lots of prizes and giveaways for the mothers like dvd players, fans, irons, microwave etc.
In a recent Vibe Magazine article, Rob Kenner reviews Sizzla's newest album Ghetto Youth-Ology. "Sizzla Kalonji can be maddeningly mercurial. The restless, prodigiously talented songwriter and performer has made more than his fair share of timeless reggae anthems. Blessed with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of melodies and flows, Sizzla has developed and discarded more styles than lesser artists could ever hope for. His influence on a generation of reggae singjays - from Turbulence to Lutan Fyah to Natural Black - is so pervasive that it’s sometimes overlooked. But he’s a consistently inconsistent recording artist.
In the hands of certain producers - Fattis Burrell, Bobby Digital, Don Corleone - Sizzla is reliably a brilliant. But he isn't above taking money from the occasional "fool fool producer" and flipping a few off-hand freestyles to keep the cash flowing through his Judgment Yard recording complex. Some creative missteps are worse than others. Can't blame him for those random rap collabos, or for trying to make "hustler" moves with Dame Dash even though the music was ultimately forgettable. As for covering Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues," perhaps it's better to pretend that never happened and keep it moving. But just when he seems in danger of going artistically astray, Sizzla has a way of returning to his sources of strength and dropping a record that silences the critics and thrills his faithful fans all over again. His latest release, Ghetto Youth-Ology, is one such record.

Kingston, Jamaica (Pen2Paper Creative Concept) - Reggae on the Hill, took place at Farley Hill National Park, no doubt one of the largest Reggae festivals in Barbados and even the entire Caribbean Region. Dancehall and Reggae's newest rising star - Konshens got a chance to wet his feet, by being booked for the largest day of the three day festival, alongside veteran acts such as Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Morgan Heritage and Queen Ifrica to name a few. According to the singjay the show was a great success for everyone, it began and ended as scheduled, was incident free, completely sold out with crowds amounting to more than 30,000 people and more importantly, all the artistes who were booked showed up and gave good performances.
Konshens was highly anticipated as a result of his growing fan base formed by the success of not only his hit track "Winner" but that of the surprising love of the track "Fair-weather Friends" shown by the Bajan people, the song demands huge respect in Barbados and is virtually unknown in Jamaica. The start of his set saw the fiery "Rasta Imposter" single which also quickly made the entire hill into a resounding choir. He looks back at the experience with much joy, as all his tracks were gobbled up by the receptive Bajan crowd with special connections in tracks like "Don't Waste The Talent" and a special treat for the ladies, when he went into the crowd to handpick a Bajan empress with the track "Looking For Me".
