No more Passa Passa, Dutty Fridaze or Bembe?

Yow! An mi a seh flick it like a dollar - an mi a seh roll it like a ten-cent- an mi a seh "Daggering" never postpone," are the words Bragga's uttered in his 2008 hit single "Dagga Dat". However, since of late his statement above which declares that Daggering never postpone did not stand grounds for long as the Broadcasting Commission has "flicked" the "Daggering" script like a one-cent and rolled all "Daggering" songs from off the air waves and TV stations "like a roller-coaster."

So far, the Broadcasting Commission has been successful in ridding the airwaves and TV stations of these "Daggering" songs. But more problems seems to be on the rise for the Dancehall Fraternity as The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) are now lobbying for the government to put an end to several street sessions (party) such as Passa Passa, Bembe, Dutty Fridaze to name a few.

According to the JCC, these sessions should also be held responsible for the promoting of sexually crude songs that are filled with lewd lyrics.

Seemore.jpg

A promoter of one of these popular street dances who did not wished to have his name disclosed slammed the JCC saying, "this is rubbish why the church would want to fight against these sessions when a lot of poor people survive from the staging of these parties. The churches need not to focus on street sessions, what they need to do is spend more time in trouble communities and try to restore peace."
passa_passa_jamaicadancehall11.jpg
The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) is also calling on the Jamaican Constabulary Force (police) to do everything in their power to make sure that private and public vehicles desist from playing these vulgar daggering/edited songs.

"Yow! An mi a seh flick it like a dollar - an mi a seh roll it like a ten-cent- an mi a seh 'Daggering' not only postponed, it cancelled to di fullest."

Churches are worst than these dance, pastors having sex with young girls and drinking heavily at rum bar while lying to the members at the church at the same time. Gay pastors is the new thing now it seems, an they talking about street dance? everyone is responsible for there own actions so there is no reason for churches to get involved with street dance when they themselves are no better, there are cults, lidges, and fremeasons in these churches so people have to watch them, QUESTION: how is it posible that churches have control over street dance now, didn't they see that a lot of world leaders are smuggling cocaine, kill people for no reason, and thay are watching street dance!

Jamaicans take to the streets, this assualt on dancehall must stop!!!!!!!!! I must give "mad props" to the politicans, for this red herring, they are so clever. Make enough noise about "dancehall" and no one will notice what an awful state the island is in. The Jamaicans who love dancehall and reggae music must act, stop listening to the radio and watching local T.V. because without the audience there can be no radio, or T.V.

Baggio-XXX:
Posted by Baggio-XXX | February 23, 2009 12:33 PM

to be honest, I was dissappointed to openly sexual jamaica has become, I mean am offer sex as I get to the airport, but the thing that makes jamaica so wonderful is the difference, versatility, creativity and authencity, street dance is jamaica, dance hall makes jamaica, time has change for the skia and mento days, all we need to do is regulate, street dance is after hours, grown up time, so the ban on daggering should be for air waves not all together, n the public transportation should regulate wat they play as well, but when it comes to grown folks time, its grown folks time, the church should not want the street dance to stop, or crusades and public church should stop as well, if u force people to do wat u want they will rebel like how a kid rebel to a parent who want to tell them how to live, treat lightly with this one, dance hall have done way more theys days then wat the church is doing for years

Posted by shellybaby | February 23, 2009 12:38 PM

So if the Church want to ban street dances and all how come dem nuh ban carnival, in my opinion isn't that clashing with their Easter theme.

Hypocrites, that's the first thing need to ban

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 1:12 PM

LISTEN HEAR YOU politicans and so called church. You all licking out against these street dances like they are forcing people to come out, you all are hating becasue you'll are gays. if they are promoting sex its for all the right reasons, its to remind us that sex is suppose to be between a man an a woman, no fag ting. What they need to use there energy on is making more jobs available for the people, and putting a stop to the violence. You all have strength fi put a stop to something that is not killing no one, but which is helping people in the ghetto to get a opportunity to make money and to travel aboard. you politicans need to use that strength and stop the killing in jamaica. Its so said that different people around the world want to visit jamaican, but they said its too violent so they rather to go somewhere else to do there vacation. if you stop passa passa, dutty fridaze, etc,, you are going to have a decrease in tourizm where if can effect the economy of the country. do these dum ass people ever sit an realize these things.

Freemasons and lodges are in the churches, trying to get the people that know how to make there money without going through there system in it, because dancehall people don't really get money from the government or nothing like that, they want to cancel street dance, I agree that people should no longer watch TV or listen to the radio an shoe them a thing or two, jamaican people never fight for there freedom, always getting pushed around.

If these street dances are not disturbing anyone within the vicinity of the dance then there shouldn't be a problem. If children are found at these dances then the parents and promoters of the dance need to be held accountable by law.

The church as to realize that "Daggering" is an adult affair and should only be postponed for children.

Enough skin-out and daggering and wind pon head top. That's all there is? Learn a skill and get busy make some money, and stop bleach skin and glue multi-colour hair in your heads. Leave that for the Jonkunnu at festival time. It's time to live upright. Purge out the vileness and reclaim your morals and decency. Done with throwing insults at each other, and curtail the violent and animalistic lifestyle. Exercise moderation in all things and remove thyself from nastiness and decadence. Move up people! Move up!

Come off the dirty tarmac and empty drinks crates. You are not human beings? Cleanse your thinking and lifestyle and restore your self-respect. little girls, stop behaving like future prostitutes and behave like young ladies so that you are admired and respected by all. Little boys, stop behaving like drifters and hooligans and adapt a new meaning to life and manhood. Find a book on Obama and try hard to adapt his ways. You won't want to see your own daughters and sons like that in the streets. Or do you? The era of slackness and madness is over. Constrain your rebellious nature and take heed to good advice.

Toni:

@ bullhead... U sir, are nothing more than a never see come see that feels that because they can use big words and they can speak proper and is able to form a sentence, that makes them better than people and that give you the right to tell people how and what they SHOULD BE DOING!.. U are an EDUCATED MORON AND A FULL BLOWN HYPOCRITE. Who's words are these?...'people should not rush to judge and condemned others' HUH? SPEAK UP, I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I will tell whose's they are, THEY ARE YOURS! Now tell me what you are doing? Aren't u judging and condemning the people that use these sessions as a means to relax and unwine?
I have encountered people like you all over, u seem to have all the answers to socitey's problems, you seem to know all the answers as to what is morally right, but at the same time you do nothing to help, You just sit behind the computer screen and Scoff at other people AND their way of live! You nor I will ever be like OBAMA, and people shouldn't try to Imitate him, reason being we are different in our own right and we have different areas that we will shine in. So reading a book and TRYING to Imitate OBAMA will lead many to feel less than human and to feeling like a failure when they can't live up to that standard!

There is no problem with the BROADCASTING COMMISSION trying to clean up the air waves, but going into sessions that are THERE FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF ADULTS and trying to shut them down because they don't agree with it is nothing short of trying to be a DICTATOR! We as citizens of Jamaica live under a DEMOCRATIC RULE, meaning we are free to choose whatever it is that we like and want to do... After a long day at work people want to get loose and let their hair down and NOBODY SHOULD TRY AND STOP THEM AS LONG AS WHAT THEY ARE DOING ISN'T BREAKING ANY LAWS... Who the hell died and made you God for you to come here and talk about our morality? Please... We are adults and our morality is OUR OWN! We all don't want to dress up in FORMAL WEAR AND GO BALLROOM DANCING, WE HAVE DIFFERENT NEEDS AND WE FIND DIFFERENT THINGS ENTERTAINING.. This has been going on for centuries, The rich have their entertainment and they don't want nor allow the people of the lower class to take part, so the lower class form their own.. So even if Daggering, or Soca, or any other dancing is lewd and slack to some, who cares, keep out of the area where u know that's the kind of activity that's going to take place...

BULLHEAD I TOLD U BEFORE TO MOVE INTO A CAVE, SOCIETY IS WAY TOO HARD FOR YOU!

p.s.. Don't think that I WILL BE going back and forth with u like the last time!

@ Toni

QUOTE: "Who's words are these?...'people should not rush to judge and condemned others' HUH? SPEAK UP, I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I will tell whose's they are, THEY ARE YOURS! Now tell me what you are doing? Aren't u judging and condemning the people that use these sessions as a means to relax and unwine?"

ANSWER: No. I am not condemning. I am encouraging. To encourage people to live their lives differently because you believe such a move would ENHANCE their STANDARD OF LIVING is to condemn? To tell people to stop skin-out and behave in a manner that is self-degrading is to condemn? To condemn is to tell people that they're black and ugly and worthless, and have nowhere going in life. That is to condemn. Am I doing that? I think very highly people so I would want to see them LIVING BETTER. And sometime to effect that change you have to drastic actions, cause some people can't see the filth they're in, cause that's all they know from the day they were born.

QUOTE: "You just sit behind the computer screen and Scoff at other people AND their way of live! You nor I will ever be like OBAMA, and people shouldn't try to Imitate him, reason being we are different in our own right and we have different areas that we will shine in."

ANSWER: 'To adapt his ways' i didn't mean to imitate his goals, but to find inspiration in someone's achievement and try to adapt some of his characteristics that make him a success and apply these to your own endeavours. One such characteristic is OPTIMISM. Some people are always dwelling on negativity and chatting bout: "Nutten nah gwone!" and "Bwoy, it look like me affi go tu'n thief to raasclaat!" If they were an optimist they would've discovered many small opportunities that could have set them free a long time ago. But they are too busy being negative. Every day of their lives is filled with negative energy.

QUOTE: "p.s.. Don't think that I WILL BE going back and forth with u like the last time!"

ANSWER: Lol. The feeling is mutual. I am done.

KSB:
Posted by KSB | February 23, 2009 11:26 PM

I can't believe there are so many people who see nothing wrong with these kinds of behaviour.

If people want to do evil, they will do it, and they will use any excuse they want to do wrong. A man who sleeps with young boys is not a real pastor, he's a criminal who hides behind a pulpit.

The church is perfectly within reason to want this stuff banned, there's no regulation for these street dances, i see children there, 7 year old boys and 30 year old women "daggering". If you all don't see a problem with that den something seriously wrong wid unu.

What about people who live nearby who are forced to be subjected to "daggerin" songs and other slackness even though they chose not to be at those kinds of events.

We might not be able to stop daggering, but we can keep our children from it, and we should.

Some of the songs and dances are too vulgar, I agree. They can come up with cleaner songs and dances. But banning dancehall? I don't think that's gonna solve the problem, perhaps ppl will soon start rebelling (the dancehall massives that is). I must say I don't really know much bout the daggering thing, but I have an idea. Please go back to the days like when Admiral Bailey used to DJ with fun etc. Don't have to describe what one did or wants to do in the bed room, that's just a blantant display of vulgarity.

I just pray that things (crime) won't escalate in light of this.

God I miss J'ca

This all have to stop some where, and for all of you who think that the broadcasting contingent is fighting dancehall, you need to get your thinking straight. The bar has been lowered by artistes who believe that they can just come and sing anything and it should be played and money is generated from it. It must stop some where. It has to be regulated, we must allow ourselves to be guided by the legislations which were drafted for intent. We are not just a group of good people, we are a great NATION, its just a pitty that the blind among us is not aware of that fact.

we were here before the slackness so we should just view it has a hurdle that we must progress over.

Clean the air waves BC but leave the street dances alone there is so much more issues in Jamaica that needs cleaned up like the corrupt politicians and the pastors robbing church members and sexing off the young girls.....

there is so much more. Why some ppl dont understand to everybody there own enjoying wat i like u dont like so why bash someone who likes something else.

Picture this all the radio statios playing hip hop, R&B or souls..........and no dancehall ....enjoyingment for u but boring for me.....

I LIVE UP IN BEVERLY HILLS AND THE STREET DANCES DOES NOT AFFECT ME BECAUSE I DO NOT GO THERE.PEOPLE IT'S TIME TO LIVE AND LET LIVE.
THE PEOPLE IN THAT AREA HAS BEEN DOING FINE THUS FAR AS IT IS THEIR THING AND THEY ARE JUST HAVING FUN.PEOPLE CAN HAVE FUN HOWEVER THEY WANT AND IT SHOULD NOT BE MANDATED BY ANYONE.THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD IN EVERY TYPE OF LIVING AND RACE.IT MIGHT NOT BE CALLED DAGGERING IN BEVERLY HILLS BUT IT IS CALLED MAKING LOVE AND BELIEVE ME, IT IS SOMETIMES WORSE THAN DAGGERING, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS, IT IS DONE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS WITHOUT CLOTHES.
AT THE STREET DANCES, INDIVIDUALS MAKE THEIR OWN CHOICE AS GROWN ADULTS SO PEOPLE GET OVER IT AND LEAVE THE GHETTO PEOPLE BE.

The people who are trying to sound educated and are trying to tell other people how to live their lives are making themselves look rather stupid. Obviously you dont understand your own logic. Here's what it is, whats best for you is not necessarily best for someone else and for all the idiots saying that reggae music is going down you dont know your history at all. reggae got this same fight when it just came on the scene from others just as close minded and self loathing as yourselves. Im not saying that i agree with every lyric that every dancehall artist says but i respect their right to be able to voice their opinion how the best know to do it. If you truly mean the best for Jamaica then you will understand that Pop culture has to be promoted. Without reggae music jamaica would be just one among the hundreds of islands out there but no because of our music and fun loving attitude we set ourselves apart. And another point reggae is more financially successful now than its every been. dancehall artists are signing huge contracts with major labels.
STOP HATE AND CONGRATULATE
DANCEHALL TO THE WORLD!!!!!!!!

what i have to say is that the government and who ever is planning on banning dancehall, the real thing they need to focus on is to organize the country, creat a better jamaica, pull down the zinc fence and the board house them make concrete house help the people to send there childrens to school creat jobs so that young men can stop doing extortion and so that women can work and don't have to sale there daughters to man to fine things. the government get money from both us and the british government and they not doing anything for the people even a lot of tourist being to that place at lease as much as little food the government don't want to give the poor people, but as the people them a try entertain themself out of all the stress and promises that the gov. made to them because them want to win election but never a X nor bell unho bombo hole can't get from me no day no time because all of you democrat or what ever you name it a wicked and unho fi dead bad.

Street dance is illegal; because the law wasn’t being enforced we grew up to believe that it is legal. Another thing is this freedom of this freedom of that, yes we are free to say or do whatever we want to as long as its not causing problem for other people. If we were all free to do what we want then there would no be no need for government. You can’t do as you please in public places and public properties. Street dance happen to keep on government property, some people like it some people don’t. I don’t. Have you ever try drive pass one of these street dance? I have and its hell to try and pass. Most of us Jamaicans are too selfish, because something is not affecting us directly, we don’t care.
All who want to come with the negative comment are free to do so. Mi a ghetto yute to from Clarendon and East Kingston. I’m not going to let the ghetto define me. Full time now we start demand better from entertainers and politicians who claims they represent us. Two words for the day : Responsibility and Accountability

Straight, fulltime dem things yah need fi happen....i see somoddy up top a talk bout "slamming culture" it is not our culture to behave like wild animals with no regard for decency....if u want to talk about culture go listen to bob marley, steel pulse, and the REAL musicians....as far as i'm concerned dancehall died early 2000....This bullsh**t needs to be stopped....imagine your young daughter going to a session and being "daggered" or your 17 year old son "daggering" some female??? CLEAN UP DI DAMN MUSIC AND FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THE YOUTHS INTO RESPECTABLE PEOPLE. and to the unmentioned promoter......the money invested into promoting a daggering fest can also be used to promote a clean decent family event....and in case u didn't know if you are promoting wholesome events as a philanthropic act you can get investors and really do something for poor people instead of advocating this DAMN moral decay.....AN YEAH AH DEEP INNA DI GARRISON MI BAWN AN GROW SO NUH FEL SEH MI NAA TALK FROM EXPERIENCE.

I love our culture, the difference in our people and our personalities. Our country needs to get back to knowing God. A Pastor is just someone who is supposed to pass on the word he has learned, but it is up to us to hear what God is telling us. We have to go back to the days when we feared and reverence God, and prayed everyday. I love to party as much as the next person, and I agree that the government is taking it too far. The blame falls on the parents first, and the church and community leaders after. We all have a part in each others lives, and we have to step up and help raise the children better. One person can do a good job, but all of us collectively can do a better one.
