From the tough neighbourhood of Gregory Park, St. Catherine, Clayton Ranger, otherwise known as Encore, emerged despite the daily struggles that surrounded him.
His early childhood replicates the hostile environment in which he was nurtured, however his attitude bloomed in a more positive direction. Encore did not only have to contend with his harsh immediate surroundings but also the hustle and bustle of the inner city of Kingston where he attended school.
Mentally he had a dream and his goal was to be involved in music. From an early age, he began writing music and had to make tough decisions. One such decision was to choose between his parents when they separated during his childhood. That decision was the defining factor in honing the Encore as an artiste.
Clayton’s father was a rather strict individual, while his mother offered measured freedom. It was in light of his mother’s softer side that he chooses to live with her. This newfound freedom allowed him to start expressing himself musically.
Encore would stay out well beyond his curfew to familiarize himself with the dancehall scenes to which he was exposed. This early love for music, dancehall in particular, was further nurtured when he began writing his own material and performing on stage shows in and around Portmore and Kingston.
