Abijah - Lost In The Music

By Nomad

abijah_lost_music_reggae_man.jpgAbijah's first (and only) hit single Revelation debuted at number 6 on May 25, 2001 and climbed to number 1, remaining on several local charts for 30 weeks. That is really the end of his story…

While writing this article I am pondering whether it is under the correct heading. I was thinking more along the line that Abijah should in fact be written about under the heading “One Hit Wonder.”

Aside from Revelation in 2001 and a remake of Bob Marley’s Sun is Shining in 2005, which we don’t really consider because it is not original, Jamaica has not really heard any other mainstream production from the man who dubs himself ‘The Ambassador for Peace.’

Abijah did commercials for the Jamaica Tourist Board and has realized the dream many who enter music in Jamaica wish to become a reality, performing on Reggae Sumfest. He has spoken at the prestigious Harvard and Oxford Universities and is a part of the "Healing the Nation" program here in Jamaica.

While we commend him on his desire to spread peace, we are still wondering what has happen to his career after Revelation. Was it lost in a revolt? Did he do all that voice training to sound like Bob Marley for nothing?

When I first heard Revelation, I thought to myself: “We have another reggae star in the making. Well after the Revelation it seems like it was not only Pluto that lost its status but also the ‘reggae star’ in the making called Abijah.

According to information received, Abijah is looking at releasing some singles to Jamaican and international radio, and this year will see the official release of his second album: Moving 2 the Top. There are words flying about that a media campaign is in the making that should bring Abijah’s talent to the forefront of international music lovers' consciousness and cement his presence on the Jamaican scene.

On his MySpace page the singer’s biography speak of him travelling throughout Europe and North America, but we are here wondering what he did while onstage. I am not going to say that he does not have a European and American fan base because I cannot prove it, however, if he has a Jamaican fan base I am guessing that it consist solely of his family members.

There is not enough material about Abijah’s music career to write a full and comprehensive article as the information on several websites found is repetitive material. Maybe he was indeed a bad choice for lost in the music.

I guess the writer of this article must of really missed listen to abijah because the wording of this article seems that way - so abijah yuh need to find back yuh self - then again abijah was a wanna be bob marley that is what ended his career you can't try to be like others because the best thing you can be is your self

What is the purpose of your articles "lost in the Music"? They are mean spirited to say the least . Have you ever heard about constructive criticism? You are far from that . It would be more helpful if you actually interviewed the victims of your attacks. You need to be in the fields and put out more timely entertainment news which these days are lacking on your site in stead of sitting behind a desk writing crap pretending to be entertainment reporters.

This is mean. I did not see Abijah as one of those ego driven artiste that deserved to be put back in place. Outaroad criticism is ok, but keep it on a level

I have to agree with Kayon, try interviewing these artistes to find out what's up with them instead of having a one sided article. If you're gonna be a journalist do it right....that being said though.....the question still begs to be asked, where on God's earth has Abijah been?
