As promised, we will continue to give you, our readers, an insight into how Terry Linen started out his career and about his unique sound.
His peers in the cool setting of Red Bank, St. Elizabeth, deemed the OutAroad.com Break Out Artiste for the Month of June a calm character. An individual blessed with musical talent that only a few persons possesses naturally.
Linen’s silky voice has been compared to that of Reggae great, Garnett Silk. The pitch, which governs Linen’s melody and harmony while he delivers his soulful songs, is undoubtedly that of a good singer. And while the tag of a Garnett Silk sound alike lingers, Linen feels no way about it.
“Mi love Garnet Silk, and from the people say I sound like him I will not fight them down. I still believe I have a different tone and texture still, but I fell no way being compared to a Reggae great,” Terry Linen explained to OutAroad.com.
Terry Linen’s early days in the music were adventurous as the artiste was in constant demand for dub plates.
“From St. Elizabeth days I use to work with a man call Mr. Swaby, and then Black Kat came about and I began doing some dub plates first. Then Mr. Swaby carried me to Penthouse where we link up with Red Rose, and I did a song called Rainbow Never Touched the Ground”.

While Terry Linen is a versatile Reggae music artiste, he at times chose to do covers, however, when asked about his reasons for doing this he outlined that there is an audience that request such a move.
“A lot of time the people them requested that I do covers. I am really an original singer.”
Some persons may be requesting cover version of songs, but still there are a lot of locals who have never heard the name Terry Linen before. According to Linen this is as a result of bad promotion in the past, as many persons might not be able to put a face to his name, but they know his songs.
“It is all about the promotion. The people don’t know who is Terry Linen because I was not being properly marketed in the past. In a couple of months from now the people are really going to know who is Terry Linen. They are going to know that I have undiluted talent,” the artiste outline with confidence flowing in his voice.
His debut album in 2001, self-titled Terry Linen, distributed by VP Records was a success, and Linen went on to tour North America and Japan. Terry Linen is now signed to Uplifting Music International and his single No Time To Linger has been heating up the airwaves both here in Jamaica and abroad.
Stick around as OutAroad.com will be reviewing No Time To Linger and will give you, our readers, a chance to have your say. You can listen to the track on the music player and leave a comment within this article. We will be posting some of those comments in the review.
