Ace deejay David ‘Mavado’ Brooks is a free man. The ‘Gangster for Life’ walked away from dogging gun-related charges that have thus far put some serious dents in his blossoming career.
Mavado appeared in the Gun Court, Down Town Kingston today (Thursday), and was freed after none of the two witnesses were available to testify.
Information reaching OutAroad.com suggests that the Jamaica’s Director of Public Prosecutions presented the court with a signed letter stating that the matter against Mavado should be dismissed and his fingerprint destroyed.
Mavado was locked up and charged on March 26, 2008 after being linked to a shooting incident that took place in July of last year. Sameer Coombs, who was believed to be an accomplice of Mavado, was arrested the same day.
The police had alleged at the time that Mavado and associates went to a bar on Manning’s Hill Road where an altercation developed with another man. According to police reports weapons were drawn and shots fired at the man. Movado had been questioned by the police, but was released without charge.
During the duration of the case Mavado was turned down by US authorities and also saw himself and other members of the Alliance banned from performing in several countries. The multimillion dollar question is whether Mavado will be granted a US visa and some of the travel bans lifted.
Let’s wait and see!
