Symphony Under the Stars with Roberta Flack

TOURISM, BUSINESS INTERESTS LINE UP BEHIND SYMPHONY

symph_email_blast.jpgKingston Jamaica: With scarcely two weeks to go, the buzz is increasing for the 2008 edition of Symphony Under the Stars, scheduled for March 15 at the Cable & Wireless Golf Academy, and major players in the tourism and commercial spheres are lining up behind the one-of-a-kind music event.

Addressing the recent launch at the Hilton Kingston hotel, Minister of Tourism the Hon Edmund Bartlett said that Symphony was an event of the caliber which his ministry was seeking to align with. “Music and the performing arts are critical to the mix of attractions, and Symphony Under the Stars is the kind of event that will be a major draw for lovers of Jamaican music from the key markets internationally.”

Major corporate entities and brands supporting Symphony include Lascelles Wines & Spirits, Appleton Jamaica Rum, Air Jamaica, Nescafe and Mercedes Benz. Part proceeds from the event will go towards the establishment of a scholarship fund at the Reggae Studies Unit.
Symphony Under The Stars is a SHEM Music Production and features Grammy award-winner Roberta Flack, Chalice, LUST, AJ Brown, Da’ville, Courtney John, Duane Stephenson, and the specially assembled Masterpiece Orchestra, with members drawn from New York and Jamaica, led by Jon Williams.

Roger:

I was dismayed to go to the backstage area for the Roberta Flack Symphony extravaganza to get an autograph from one of my all time favorite artists and I saw her myself treating very very badly a young lady that I believe worked for her (maybe not for much longer!).

She was saying some very cruel things to her and my respect for the great lady of soul was diminished greatly.

I know we are all human, but she should remember that kindness is non-negotiable in the end.

And I never asked her for her autograph, after that!!!
