Dancehall Artiste Mavado Arrested Last Night

It seems Movado’s past just won’t leave him alone.

By: Secret Agent
OutAroad.com Writer

Mavado_arrested_photosalliance.jpgOutAroad.com understands that the fast rising dancehall star has again run into trouble with the law. Movado was arrested last night (March 26) and slapped with some serious charges that bring lengthy jail time behind them if he’s ever convicted.

He was charged with two counts of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm, based on an incident dating back to July last year. The artist showed up for questioning last night, and following the interview, he was thrown into a cell. It’s unclear at this time at which police station he is being held.

That incident took place on Manning’s Hill Road in St. Andrew. It was alleged at that time that Movado was a witness to a shooting there. The police had alleged at that time that Mavado and associates went to a bar on Manning’s Hill Road where an altercation developed with another man. The police claim that weapons were drawn and shots fired at the man. Movado had been questioned by the police, but was released without charge. Now it seems the police have got enough information to charge him. They have declared that the artist will remain in custody for at least another 24 hours.

OutAroad.com will continue to track this one, and bring you the latest as it happens.

flite_philly my comment is in response to you

Bounty Killer doesn’t need Movado to in order to headline shows, he also doesn’t need to have a current hit to be relevant in the music industry, the music he has made has endless shelf life and will live on forever, for generations to come. Everyone is talking about how comes bounty doesn’t have a current hit song, but when it comes to musicians like Jr Gong, Sizzla, Buju Banton, people don’t say the same thing. People like Bounty Killer, Jr Gong and Sizzla, don’t need to have a current hit in the dancehall because they have cemented their place in the industry, so they can never flop again. Look at Elton John, Madonna, Whitney Huston, Air Supply, when was the last time people like them had a hit on the billboard charts? But they are still some of the most popular artists of today because of the shelf life in their music, Look at The Rolling stones they haven’t had a current hit in ages and they remain on of the top artists of today, the draw the biggest sold out crowds. The Beatles, and Elvis are dead and gone but their music will always live on. I could go on and on about artists who aren’t from our generation, but their music is just as popular or even more than the artists of today, because they make good music which never dies.

I love Mavado and he is one of the best musicians out there today, just because he sings about it that doesn't mean you are supposed to go out there and do it! The kids growing up today need to know right from wrong and a lot of parents now a days don't show there kids the right direction! We need to focus and get them on the right path. Not showing them how to get the man with the most money or find a woman to pay for everything. They need to take there ass to school and learn instead the Bull^&%& that is going on today! If I see a man jump off the bridge am I going to do it also? We need to focus on the needs of the kids and start discipling them now before it's too late! Keep ur head up Mavado!

Everything negative that have been done by these youths society always find someone else to blame except for having these youths take responsibilities for their actions. You all acting like they are all babies where as they spill the milk, the babysitter should be there to clean it up.They should suffer the consequences for their actions. We all should.

Silent But Deadly:

Honstly i never really leave comments but for this i think i should. I am aware of this whole situation on a first hand basis, Movado is "not guilty" of what they are saying. yes he promotes violent music but also some very inspiring good ones. The man grew up in violence most of his beloved family members where victims of violence so what else was he to sing about??? He sung what he knows..... He is a good man regardless what any of you may think or know but everyone has to go through changes and stages to find themselves and he is on that journey the past couple of incident that he has been attached to really was not due to any immediate action he was taking they where just aftermath of the path he first started on. all who are wishing him bad really should be ashame he is a black brother who's life was full of pain so he sang about it and now u crucify him for it??? crucify the politicians and government officials who make the poor people suffer leave them to rob each other and kill each other to survive..... yes it isn't the only means to survive but as time has shown whether a village Africa a town in Afghanistan poor people in poor surroundings with lack of proper education leads to advance in crime, hunger, depression. The man did not murder anyone he made music, music that he was feeling at the time music that was his gate out of the poverty and now i am sure he sees that now instead of him just making music for his personnel joy now he has to make it a business. U think these artist are taught the trial of ent. in JA that why the business in JA is so bad no one teaches them the seriousness of the industry how one bad move can mean the difference between a temp career and a legendary one... the only comment i truly agree with is i feel maybe Killah should be taking a more Pro Active role.. All no i have never seen him come to Movado's defense.. why is that?? why leave your son to drown?? if you can't help him then maybe you really aren't his daddy cause i don't know about you but what my daddy says goes!!!
big up the alliance same way they bring alot of music and entertainment into this business
BTW damn all you Beenie fans that is still bigging him up and condemning movado but beenie who doesn't pay child support who beats woman (yeah i know but at least Bounty admits it) and blatantly lies to public!!! None of them are better then the other they are all people so stop comparing and just listening tune laugh at suss and live your own life

Mavado, like alot of these deejays are experiencing a kind of "culture shock", what some Jamaicans call "never see, come see". Mavado can barely read and write and yet he is so cocky and confident, to the point where he treats Jamaican Laws and rules with contempt. All me say is STRAIGHT PRISON for illegal firearm offenders!!!!!!!
If he is so talented, why can't he do some positive uplifting tunes?

StewPeas:
Posted by StewPeas | March 27, 2008 5:03 PM

Even though Mavado "rich" now(so him say), him need to go back to school -I am sorry!. He needs to go to school, so that youngsters who admire him will see the importance of school and stay in school and recognise the ultimately education is your best security for life. I have spoken to on and off the record, done interviews with, Ele, Bounty, Beenie, Mavado, Demarco, Harry Todler, these guys are barely fuctionally literate, cannot construct a sentence, cannot use proper grammer. Everyone can see and hear the difference in Tanya Stevens, Assasin, Sean paul, Shaggy, Vybz Cartel.

At Stew Peas, I do like Sean Paul but for a uptown guy his grammer is way off beat. I agree with you about the others you mentioned above = they can construct a proper sentence.

At Emily, the incident took place a long time ago but perhaps now the police have gathered enough evidence to charge him. Old time J'cans say 'yu sow what yu reap'. I personally have never really sat down to listen to all of Movado's songs, but I know that his lyrics are not uplifting. For example the one where he sings, 'Whe dem a do, whe dem a try, marrow will fly-y-y into the sky'. I wouldn't buy his records. Can you imagine the impact those words may have on youngsters who don't even understand what life his about? I am sorry and I know that I will be vilified by Movado's fans for leaving such a comment. I don't care.

Artists like Movado are highly responsible for the tarnishing of our society. I say this because even though he may not directly give some of the youngsters (in J'ca) that are committing the crimes a knife or gun and say go out and blow ppl marrow if they violate, but many of these youngsters see him as a role model. My message to Movado is that he needs to fix up and look sharp/ or else????

I have been reading some of these comments and a lot you guys don't know much about Mavado, and you definitely don't listen to his songs he has some gangsta songs, but also has some that are positive,”On the Rock," "Dying,"They Fear Me", "Gully Side" "Born & Raised" and there's more before you criticize you should actually listen to the words in his songs!! He's not cocky he's actually one of the most down to earth artists that sings what someone else wrote or what he writes, it really doesn't matter because he's making his money anyway, and actually giving back to the community. He bought computers for the Constant Spring All Age and Charlie Smith High School for the Connect Jamaica project? He came to Connecticut, after performing he took pictures with his fans which most entertainers now days DON'T DO! They don't want to associate with who helped them get where they are. I don't hear you criticizing Beenie Man who doesn't write most of his songs, doesn't pay child support, beats and disgraces his woman (he claims he loved so much), and always try to bring everyone else down that's not with him. You guys already know how the police is in Jamaica dem just a look some money...FREE MAVADO!!!!

HE IS STILL YOUNG AND NEED TIME TO NOTICE THAT THIS GANGSTA LIFE IS NOT AN EASY GAME TO PLAY AND FIND A NICE WIFE AND SETTLE DOWN AND BRING SOME NICE CHILDREN THAT WILL GIVE HIM GRAND-CHILDREN FOR LIFE{not gangsta for life}
HE IS A TALENTED YOUNG MAN AND ONE DAY HE WILL CHANGE I STILL HAVE HOPES FOR HIM AS HE GOES THRU HIS DARK DAYS THE LIGHT DO COME TO US EARLY OR LATE JUST DONT LET DEATH BE THE TOO LATE. ONE LOVE TO ALL MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS ONE LOVE

People, have we forgotten about the "presumptions of innocence" until proven guilty? It maybe a fact that he was in bad company and should have been more responsible but we still cannot say he is guilty of the accused crime. Yes, he has violent lyrics but that is prevalent amongst dancehall artists although many say he has elevated it to another level. Let us see how the story unfolds and watch to see when the facts start coming in.

Mavado is a huge artiste, yes, but in terms of him singing about what he has seen while growin up, you have to question it because nuff ah dem dont write all dem songs(not specifyin mavado). Personally, his vocals and his ability to sing is what I see the best of in him, and he does deserve reward for those abilities, but I still think the music should have a "poeticness" to it.

If mavado is really guilty of dem kinda ting, him need fi start think seriously think about what he want inna life*

Gangsta fa Life is an image. Just because he's singing the songs does not mean he wants to see ppl @ war. Every artist sings songs to try and live up to their fame. It's not even a dancehall thing. Look at artists like Biggie, Tupac, Snoop Dog, etc.

Y'all need to stop blaming Movado for violence cause he can't help what people do. Big people suppose to know right from wrong. That kinda music isn't for kids and if the kids are hearing it then the grown-ups that are exposing them are to blame.

Big up Movado. I just hope he'll learn from all of this and make better decisions about the people he keeps in his company. (8) tell dem go clean up dem heart, yeh, cause dem bad mind and damn corrupt (8). Sing that to your company, Mov.

Peace, bless and keep your head up. Looking forward to hear of da song releases and, hopefully, not da prison one.
