British Link-Up Tragedy - One man lay dead

By: Secret Agent

police_shooting_jamaica.jpgThe Portmore Police now have a mountain of work to do, as they try to track down witnesses to yesterday’s early morning shooting at the British Link Up Party held at La Roose in Port Henderson.

The job was made that much harder yesterday, as people started disappearing immediately after the shooting which left one man dead, five others tending to gun shot wounds, and several others nursing other injuries.

What should have been a ‘peace meal’ dance to celebrate the settling of differences between Fire links’s Sound system and Stone Love, turned into a horrifying all out war between a few feuding patrons.

Reports are that a dispute among a set of patrons, led to the frightening shoot out inside the session, forcing others to duck, dive and dash for cover.

At the end of it, one lay dead. He’s been identified as 41-year-old Clifton Reid, of a Kingston five address. Some patrons at the event said he’s a member of the Black Roses Crew, and it’s not yet clear if he was involved in the argument or caught in the crossfire.

According to Police, the session was still in full swing at minutes to eight, when an argument developed between two men. The police have not confirmed it, but some reports suggest it was over a woman, others indicate it was about a spilled drink. The argument then led to weapons being drawn by several other men, from both arguing factions. They are all said to be licensed firearm holders. All hell broke loose when they started shooting at each other, as patrons scampered to safety and trampled others in the rush.

The venue became empty within minutes, except for Reid’s body, which lay beside a set of speaker boxes.

The British Link-Up is an annual event held traditionally at La Roose. It’s been known for its ability to attract heavy spenders, and trendy attire.

This is very sad if all it was was one steps on another shoes expensive or not.

I was just on my phone telling my friends what a wonderful time i had at my african club i play and mc at while opening up my email box to see this.BRITISH LINK UP reads like gunmen link up so early at eight so the fun loving peeps never get to link up.

My sisters and brothers this club i went to in London was very pack the V.I.P room and the downstairs its have 2 floors and not one bad thing happen only fun fun cant down.

In the house was one of East african awardwining DJ SHIRU and the REGGAE BASHMENT CREW EAST AFRICA FINEST CREW
While i was inside i was just saying why cant our Jamaican clubs cant be like this again like it once was.

I am not into this babylon easter thing as one year its march and april at other times but it was the best place i have being for a long time and all the peeps was BLACK IN ONE LOVE AND UNITY.

TELL DEM TOO HAPPY TO- SHOOT- THAT WE DEH A ABROAD AND WANT TO COME HOME COME HELP BUILD UP WE COUNTRY AND IF DEM A GWAAN SO THINGS NAH GO CHANGE AND YES A NUFF AFI WALK WITH GUN TO PROTECT DEM SELF INNA DIS TIME BUT NU FI STEP PON SHOES UNNU FIX UP PLEASE AND WIPE OFF THE SHOES ANN DANCE WITH A GIRL AND GIRLS DANCE WITH A MAN A DAT DANCE HALL ABOUT ----PEACE ON THE STREET AM OUT.

Well the people who keep link up have to be held responsible because they let all their friend in with the guns just because they can afford to buy champagne and make the ting look good. They think that they are A listers so they don't have to be searched. They will learn when they kill the lesbian one who kept the dance. (This time they look so FAT on the dvd;s )

b4 unnu go furdah a dis mi hear:Patrons who witnessed the incident, told THE STAR that the shooting began following a discussion between the high ranking British Link-Up member and the entertainment figure. "Is like (the British Link-Up member) tell him (entertainment figure) say that a girl say something and him say a lie, so him call Chocutto' and ask him if a nuh so the girl say and Chocutto say 'yeah man a true'. So (entertainment figure) tell Chocutto to .... him madda and (British Link-Up member) tell Chocutto to tell him back and no fraid a him," one witness said.

Licensed firearm holders
He said that when Chocutto answered a gun was pulled and he was shot twice in the head. After he fell he is said to have been shot again.

pleople we should all get our facts straight before making any assumptions. what happen at the British link up event is nothing close to what your assumptions are. yes, what happen was indeed wrong, no one should ever have to witness such a rebellious act, while trying to have fun....but, the argument was not over "stepping on a shoe" or even over a "woman". the guy was trying to tell the other guy not to hit his x-girlfriend because it is not necessary.... but his ego got the best of him and he started shooting like a mad man..others the nothing but try to protect themselves. nevertheless, everyone involve in the shooting was wrong, if they wanted to kill themselves they should do on their own terms, not around others. yes the promoter shouldn't have allow guns in the party regardless if its licensed. but, those guys protecting the girl are very respected business owners not the typical "Gun man". they were just caught up in a bad situation no way out but to fight back.... what would you do if you are being attacked? yes, its so so so so wrong but our reflex get the best of us....
