It was an amazingly great experience at Morgan’s Harbour Hotel & Marina on Friday night as the CVM TV Port Royal Music Festival got underway with the staging of its September 7th event Pirates & Wrenches Celebrity Party.

The Premium Ultra All- Inclusive Party which prepared a five star menu and had a stunning variety of liqueur with all the high anticipations did not disappoint. With music being provided by the now 18 year old sound system Renaissance Disco along side Richie D and Yohan Stevens the night progressed smoothly with 70’s and 80’s rock steady grooves from veterans and legends like Bob Marley, Alton Ellis, Barrington Levy among others. Never stalling in vibe or excitement Renaissance went deep in their catalog to provide some great techno and alternative rock spins at minutes after 12.

The VIP area were filled with familiar faces from all angles. From media, Winford Williams host of CVM TV entertainment programme On Stage, Ms. Kitty of the RJR group and Neville Bell of TVJ’s morning program Smile Jamaica all partied with music celeb’s like Rising star 2006 winners One Third, DJ Benzly Hype and members of the Voice Mail singing group. As the V.I.P bubbled with excitement the arrival of the recently crowned Miss Jamaica Universe 2007 Yendi Phillips caused a camera frenzy as she made her way down the red carpet treatment. Formally dressed with her winning sash across shoulder Yendi was joined by the 2nd place runner up of the pageant as well as other friends.

The plush harbour bar and lounge areas were all lined with bright lights and smiling faces, beautiful women could be seen dancing and enjoying the music of DJ Richie D who hit the turntables at about 2 AM. He quickly raised the tempo with some catchy hip hop and R&B picks like Fantasia’s “When I See You”, 50 Cent’s “I Get Money” and T Pain’s “Buy You a Drink” all of which sent the crowd in a dancing frenzy. Hip hop wasn’t juggled for much longer as the crowd signaled for the Cassava Piece gangsta DJ Mavado. His catalog was first up with a mix of “Shotta Nuh Miss” on a hip hop beat. Munga Honourable’s “Bad From Mi Born”, Beenie Man’s “Back It Up”, Bounty Killa’s “Look in to my Eyes” and Baby Cham’s 1990 hit “Another Level” got the biggest crowd responses and brought out the Lighters.

The exquisitely decorated venue was a mix of comfort and security for the 300 or so patrons who made the journey to Port Royal. Complimented with the back drop of the beautifully lit up Kingston Harbour and commercial district the night’s festivities came to a climatic end at minutes pass 4AM when groups of people began to file out. Among the sponsors with booth’s at the venue displaying booklets and samples were Mitsubishi Motors who had two 2007 Mitsubishi sports car on display at the entrance as well as supermodels doing promotion on their new fleet of vehicles, Mega Phone who featured an exotic setup with it’s cell phone products and costumed pirate sales representatives. Though the turn out was lower than anticipated the event was a success and a great introduction to the Main Show featuring R&B star Brian McKnight on Sept 8th.
